I can't remember the last time I posted anything on the messageboards, but I need to get this off my chest somewhere and my family have had enough of hearing about it already! Yes, Jonny Evans is absolutely useless. Like, really bad. This is going to turn into a bit of a rant I'm afraid...
Yeah there will be people who try to defend him, saying we're just reacting to one bad result, he's a young player and needs time... no, I'm afraid I simply don't agree with that. Of course, everyone can see that fourth goal tonight was his fault, if I defended like that for my local amateur team I'd be physically assaulted by my manager, but the third goal was also bad from his point of view. He was lazy, thinking the cross wouldn't get past Fabio, and so he didn't even bother to look round to locate the striker. Sure enough, the cross comes in and Cartlon Cole is past his shoulder before he knows what's going on. It's not just this game tonight though...
All those draws we've been having this year? 3-1 up away to Everton and it ends 3-3? Yep - Jonny Evans. Although on this one Gary Neville has to take a share of the blame. Two identical goals from Everton, they stroll down their left wing and the cross comes deep into the box, and on both occasions Jonny Evans gets beat in the air by Tim Cahill and it results in a goal. The first one he puts in himself and the second he nods down for Arteta to smack home. Now, Cahill is good in the air, but Evans must have at least 3-4 inches height advantage over him, so to get beat twice in quick succession is just not good enough as a centre-back.
2-2 away to Fulham. Bobby Zamora contests one ball with Vidic and one ball with Evans, and promptly decides that he'll spend the rest of the day picking on Evans. Understandable, you would say, given that Vidic is rock-solid, but the ease in which Zamora simply bullied Evans out of that game... well, it was close to embarrassing. He beat Evans to every ball. Thinking back I'm sure that Fulham's first goal came when Zamora out-muscled Evans and cut the ball back for Davies to score.
2-2 away to Bolton? Evans hardly covered himself in glory. Zat Knight beats him in the air from a corner to put them in front after about five minutes! And bullied by Davies throughout the rest of the match.
The game a few days ago against Blackburn just about sums it up - he only had to play the last 30 minutes when we were already 6-0 up, and yet he still manages to make sure Blackburn get a consolation! Evans is the one man marking Samba when he heads in.
Jonny Evans simply isn't good enough. Being subbed as a centre-half like he was tonight means everyone knows you've had a horror and the manager wants you out of there before you do more damage. People say he's young, but I'm sorry he's almost 23 and had a full year of first-team football with Sunderland. I think it's clear now that he's just not got the ability to play for Utd - he's barely even Premier League level if you ask me!
