    Re: The usual nonsense

i was hoping the team was going to be an out and out attacking side as we are capable of out scoring teams! chelsea game we used 2 strikers yet in a game against basel we used 1 imo that seems a step back. I know Leeds shouldn't be compared to Basel but i feel with our attacking players that night we had Leeds worried in defence and that style could of come off tonight and kept basel on the back foot.

had nothing to do with lack of creativity. But lack of concentration. Our defense was a mess today and that causes shaky gameplay troughout. Everything starts at the back if that isnt solid then your entire team isnt.

I think we need more creativity.I cant wait till Cleverley comes back as he and Anderson and a brilliant partnership going cant wait till they resume that.I would love to see Gotze here next summer though but if Van Der Vaart is avaliable for around 12million thats a bargain he can still do a great job for us and can give us a few top years yet.I doubt he will leave Spurs though.
    and Barkley, :D

We need to get that consistency back thats what we are lacking even SAF has admitted that thats what we need again. We have plenty of experience all over the park but a lack of concentration and consistency can be bad just like it showed tonight.

Fair enough point, Rio's marking for the second goal (or lack of) was probably the worst bit of defending I've ever seen from him, but with how little football he's played of late, it's understandable that he'll suffer a few lapses of concentration. Hope he gets back to his best soon.

Can you people actually pay attention to what happened on the pitch? Our problem was not our midfield, our problem was not the lack of creativity due to Rooney being out, it was the fact that we had our worst defensive performance in at least 4 years. But as usual, all we see are arguements about Carrick. People complain that they get attacked for critisising the team, well you should at least critisise the right players. Were Carrick and Ando great, no, but they weren't shite either. The fact is, this was an incredibly rare, one off bad performance in the area where we are usually the strongest, and our defence need to brush themselves off and get back to their usual rock solid selves on the weekend.

We were poor defensively against Chelsea as well and have only kept like two or three clean sheets in like eleven games. An embarrasement like this has been coming. Like Fergie said, its a wake up call.

We wern't at our best against Chelsea, but I think conceding 1 against a top class side like Chelsea and conceding 3 against an average side like Basil are 2 very different things. Yes, Chelsea should have scored another 3 or so but a lot of it came from fantastic build up, where as a lot of Basil chances were pure shoddy defending.

I went tonight, it was awful, huge gaps between midfield and defense, no proper defensive midfield cover. Carrick half decent first half went completely missing in the second, but he wasn't alone in this. We have had CM problems for a few seasons now that should have been addressed but haven't.

We definitely should have brought midfield player in central area as noone can properly play a holding role, but we didn't so occasionly we are going to suffer, probably quite a lot on and off this season.

Somtimes our attack will get us home free because we'll score more than the other side but its a risky way to go. Pogba will be a good player but not yet he's too green and needs at 18 a while yet.

It (midfield) should be addressed in January but it won't be, SAF's stubborn streak will mean he won't do it as that would mean he'd have to admit he was wrong not to do it before, and he won't bring himself to do that.

So its going to be a bumpy ride.

I'm not saying Pogba is ready yet, but I think he'll start breaking into the first team within a couple of years, but if we sign a top class midfielder, it reduces his possibility of doing so.

I don't think investment in a creative midfielder is needed as much as defensive midfielder. Get Schweinsteiger or De Rossi to United

I personally would prefer to wait untill Pogba breaks into the team, as I feel having a top class player brought in for that role would hamper his development.

Compared to how good we've been this season, we did lack a bit of creativity, but overall I don't think that was really the problem, I mean we scored 3, which is a good effort against anyone, but for our defence to conceed 3 against anyone other than Barca is well below our usualy standards. As far as Gotze and Van Der Vaart go, I don't think VDV fits the way we play, and I couldn't see him working here, and Gotze I prefer out wide over a central midfielder, and we already have plenty of wingers, but Gotze is definately one to watch.
