Re: Five reasons why Manchester United have lost the title

    xmas:
    Captain Marvel No.7:
There isnt 5 reasons, there's one reason and one reason only. Throwing a 4-2 lead away at home to Everton with 8 mins to go.

Everything else is irrelevant, we see that game out and the City result would have been meaningless, whatever the outcome. Fergie has even said those 10 minutes have killed our season and they have, it was suicide.

We win the Everton game and we'd be sitting top of the league now 2 points clear. That game has cost United the title barring a minor miracle.

That's silly....it's like saying we only lost the title to Chelsea 2 years ago b/c of the 0-0 draw with Blackburn or only b/c we lost to them at OT that April.

Choose your metaphor, but a season is a marathon or a war played out in 38 segments. The mess against Everton was only the most recent f*** up and the fact that it was a "do or die"/"last chance saloon" affair indicates that there's a larger narrative at play. Don't you think maybe the loss to City at home killed our season? How about the loss to them away? How about losing to Blackburn? Losing to Wigan?

I understand the desire to see the fact that we won't win the league as a result of one game on one day but it's obviously a much bigger issue than just that.

There are always up and down throughout the season but the Everton game could have rescued our season if we had done it properly. 1 month ago most people would have expected an easy win at Wigan but dropping point against Everton. As it turned out, Wigan was a better team so no big deal. If 3-2 was not a wake up call, then surely Fergi should have done something when we were 4-2 up. Just beef up the middle and kill the game, something that we know how to do in previous seasons. There is just 1 reason - complacency of some players and Fergi, and it showed in CL games and some of the EPL games, particular against Everton when everyone know its importance.

Re: Five reasons why Manchester United have lost the title

    BizarreMind:
    1) David de Gea / Anders Lindegaard

One game De Gea is no 1 then Lindegaard is no 1 - there was no direction or consistency. Earlier on in the season, De Gea needed backing after some errors, it seemed that this was not given and when United needed to be united from tremendous scrutiny they buckled, dropping De Gea with Lindegaard replacing him. This led to the defence not having a consistent platform in crucial games leading to dropped points, most notably Newcastle away, a game which CIty powered through this weekend.

    2) Not buying a center midfielder

It speaks volumes when your starting centre midfielder was a man who retired! The likes of Carrick, Anderson and Cleverley have all failed to fill the void left by Paul Scholes. Sir Alex Ferguson must take some blame towards this as he hadn't prepared efficiently towards Scholes' impending retirement. The market is there for United to purchase a central midfielder, there are dozens of players who would improve the club's options. Lets hope Sir Alex has learnt his lesson and will splash the cash on the likes of Hazard, Modric or another world class midfielder and that United don't turn towards bringing Roy Keane back.

    3) Relying too much on Wayne Rooney

Another 25+ goalscoring season for Rooney, however, where would United be without his input? He has carried United in more than enough games. The other players within the team need to step up and contribute more goals. What is the point in keeping Berbatov and never playing him. Surely he should have been moved on last summer in favour of an option Ferguson does rate.

    4) Not sticking with Javier Hernandez

Javier Hernandez was last seasons most feared Premier League striker and now he looks like a player with minimal confidence and in desperate need of game time. However, Sir Alex continues to play Danny Welbeck, this is fantastic for England, however, the partnership and understanding that Hernandez and Rooney built last season seems to be wasted. He has had his moments with winners against Everton and Swansea, but these were in the first half of the season and in 2012 he has spent most of his time warming the bench.

    5) Reshuffling the back four - and Vidic's injury

Following on from Nemanja Vidic's injury, United never coped with such a big loss. They flattered to at times, but missed him when it really mattered. The likes of Jones and Smalling at at times Evans have failed to step up to the mark. Although Vidic is an excellent player and to fill his shoes is a big ask, the manner in which united have let teams to over dominate them is frightening. The loss to Wigan and 4-4 draw at home to Everton culminated to United pretty much handing the title back to City. Even early on in the season when Vidic was fit, the team was shuffled around far too much, culminating in needlessly dropped points.

OVER CONFIDENCE IS THE NO.1 KEY TO DOWNFALL! The EPL Title is NOT GUARANTEED for Man United ... FIGHT FOR IT! waiting for another Team to BEAT Merc City so that we can WIN the Title is PATHETIC!

Or maybe City are a better team with much more quality ? just a thought.

If City's squad is as good as you think it is then why is it that they can only win it on GD and not point's difference, even after beating United twice?

Its not the margin m8 its also the quality of football they play ! we've somehow amassed a larger points total than other title winning seasons but the football we've played has been largley horrible to watch, We've got to be honest at a point and admit City have played by far the best football simply coz they have all the flair players, Schloes apart what flair have we got ? Nani ? 10 game a season if we're lucky man thats it.
I dont give a flying *** about citys squad, they've played "far the best football" but they've 8 more goals than us! jesus what a gulf in class.

    Wayne Wall:
Why did we lose the league? Because our team is full of short people and can never win a ball in the air. Because we don't have a holding midfielder capable of bringing the ball forward. Because we don't have enough strikers that can dribble with the ball with a good first touch. Because we always seem afraid to shoot. Because we don't have a proper right-back or any cover for our left-back. Because several of our players, and our tactics, are predictable. Because we are over-reliant on older players. Because we have too much sub-standard dross that should've been moved on ages ago. This all boils down to MONEY. When you shop in the bargain bin you have no right to feel disappointment. When we reply on £6m strikers and youth strikers to win us the league when City have a £30m legend in Aguero that can pick the ball up in his own half, dribble with it, keep the ball, stay composed and set someone else up, that's where we lose. Do you see Hernandez doing that? The guy can't dribble, has no first touch and no composure. Michael Carrick, good player but nothing compared to Yaya Toure. They both win the ball and intercept, difference is that Toure is more physical, and when he wins a ball he'll fly forward, make intelligent runs and SCORE. Our playmaker that we've forced out of retirement? Great player but hasn't got the legs anymore. Compare him to Nasri or Silva - will he run 30 yards with the ball and beat several players with skill? NO. Our centre-backs - without Vidic we are weak. Johnny Evans can be bullied. Smalling, for a huge guy, can be bullied. Jones is still young and impetuous. Ferdinand is the best but leaves the marking of key players to others that are lesser players than him. So we are soft in the centre. Ryan Giggs? Has been a great player but is not anymore, his ego needs to disappear and he needs to quit, as Fergie will play him 'til he's 42. It's MONEY people, plain and simple. Along with a little excessive loyalty. We need rid of Park, Berbatov, Anderson, Fletcher, Owen ETC. and buy some quality. Which we won't, as we we'll have less spending money than last season due to the three P's. So we'll probably get Kagawa for about £10m and a couple of unproven young players, total spend £20-30m. Meanwhile City will strengthen, buying Hazard etc. and next season will be tragic. I've never been one to criticise the Glazers, but we need to sell up to a billionaire and fast or this club's days of winning trophies are dead.
I totally agree with you. ManCity have better players and they dominatde all except one games(away against Arsenal). We struggled even against lesser teams.

If we had better luck with injuries the Everton game would not have mattered either.

No if we had been anywhere near as healthy as City have been this year this title race would have been over weeks ago and we wouldn´t even be a discussion. Who knows what else may have turned out different?

Just an excuse Fergie has used all season when theres simply more to it. The fact is our midfield has been over ran by so many teams.

I thought it was because we lost to Wigan, Blackburn and Newcastle (teams we should be beating), drew against Everton 4-4 after being 4-2 up at home AND losing to City home and away!
    Ohhh United we love you
