I think the Mets are playing over the heads now, but I'll take it. But today is a very sad sports day for me. Can't think about anything else. Truly gut-wrenching.
Better for you. Francisco just blew another save... ughhh. Would of swept the series if it wasnt for him.

Fair point, but I live in Manchester and the relationship between supporters is a fractious one at best. Football can be tribal, and if you followed the sport in 1980s Brtain you would appreciate the hostility. I know that the next few weeks, for me, are going to be a nightmare; and I'll do the decent thing and congratulate all my Bitter "friends" .............. even the one's who've described me as a "red, Munich ***" .................. but I'm not going to feel a scintilla of "hapiness" for them, because, believe you me, they would never return the favour.

Re: Some perspective from an American sports fan

I due tend to agree with you concerning the passion of a football fan compared to any other sport. And an inter-city rivalry is as intense as it could possibly be with the stakes as high as they were today right to the end. But I will tell you that English football fans do underestimate the passion of the American sports fan. I'm a season ticket holder to the NY Giants (american football) team. They have won the Super Bowl twice in the last 4 years which is extremely hard to do. I routinely have seen fans weep openly in bars and parties and at the game when championships are won. And I've seen the most intense fights in the parking lots between rival fans. Our NY-Phila rivalry is probably as intense as MU-Leeds or MU-City or MU-Liverpool. We care a whole lot too. It's just that as American sports fans we have several sports to spread our loyalty out to. That's what I respect from EPL fans of each team. The sheer passion for that one team since they were children. One of the things as a fan I enjoy watching on the last day of the season is the reaction of the fans whose team is about to be relegated and manage to score and somehow get saved. I've never seen anything like it in any sport.

Damn, good to see another Mets fan on this forum here I thought I was the only one. We're off to a great start, thought this team would struggle this season.

Yank, at the first sight my reply is intended to be rude, but, you post actually is a good will fully hearted statment, the only thing that I want to say to you is, there is not any point of comparison between football passion and any other sport.

I do understand what you are saying. Although I'm sure I'd have to live in Manchester and be an MU fan to really grasp the devastation right now. I do however remember the 2000 World Series between the Mets and Yankees. That was an awful time to be a Mets fan when that was over. As far as the money thing, City's spending has really only been the last 3-4 years. You'd have to admit that United before that was outspending City for top players. It's really the last few years that the cash-strapped Glazers have stopped spending for United and hoped that SAF could win with homegrown players and bargain talent. Honestly, I just wish City won 5-0 today. The way it ended was downright cruel.

I am a Yankee fan and originally from New York so I understand what you are saying. The difference here is that the Yankees have never lost to Mets in this fashion. This is the equivalence of Mariano Rivera blowing the save against the Mets in game 7 of a world series. United had the title won when they were 8 points up and had it won with 2minutes left. This IZ devastating. Another thing that is different is that the Yankees have more money than the Mets. They can outspend the Mets, that is not the case with United. City is the Yankees of the EPL money wise.

Some perspective from an American sports fan

First off, I'm a huge MU supporter so this is a really gut wrenching lose for me too. But I'd like to offer you some perspective. I live in NYC and in baseball, we have the Mets and the Yankees. The Yankees as you know are right up there with United as being the top sports franchise in the world. The Yankees have 28 world championships, all the top players, spend the most money etc. Win all the time with a chance to win the world series just about every year. The Mets on the other hand are basically City. Frustrated fans, never win. The little brother. I'm a lifelong Mets fan and I can tell you the hatred (in a sports way I mean this) runs very deep for the Yankees. I rejoice when they are eliminated from the playoffs each year. I know the City fans feel that way about United. They have to. So there is a tiny bit of myself that would just like to congratulate them on their title this year. Money or no money, the title is won on the field and they came through in stunning fashion when they had to. The MU fan in me is very sad today. But for some of you who live in Manchester, you should have a degree (just a small bit) of happiness for your neighbors today who have suffered for a long time watching MU win title after title. In the same city no less.
