Re: Start November 2011 - what was missing?

    kristensen:
In the start of November a certain player was deployed in a deeper role than usual. He played to perfection. Spraying passes all over the field, fast one-two football, longballs to the opposite flank - almost like a certain Paul Scholes. There seemed to be just one problem - he left a glooming hole, that could not be filled.

You have probably guessed it by now, the player I am talking about is Wayne Rooney. He has all the qualities of a top quality playmaker in the mould of Paul Scholes. A great range of passing, excellent shooting, very aggressive and he has plenty of presence in his play. He has the fighter spirit and the discipline to play in a two-man-midfield, and I think he could be a huge succes if he was to be played in that position. As mentioned earlier, he put in some fantastic performances back in November, but the team lacked something up front...

With Kagawa as a new addition to the team, the hole is filled! Kagawa would be given the "freerole", running all over the field, and dictating our counter attacking play. Inch perfect trough balls to our striker, lots of assists and scoring goals for fun like he did at Dortmund.

With Rooney in midfield, Welbeck would stay up top, which I would prefer. IMO Welbeck is much better up front than Rooney - maybe due to his size, I can't tell. Welbeck is strong, technical, fast and homegrown - it would be a dream come true to watch him become a Legend! He was very good this season, and I truly believe he will be worldclass in a couple of seasons - maybe even the next! It would be a shame if he were to rot on the bench...

Obviously we would save many millions on the likes of Modric etc. etc. with Rooney now taking the role. He has the qualities of a striker, but he lacks in some areas, such as speed and dribling, which won't be needed in the midfield. There he can compensate with great passing and tactical knowledge.

As a last plus, we would get some much needed goals from the midfield. Even though he is down there, he will still get space to shoot and get in the box - just look at Scholes!. This would give us some much needed goals from our midfield!

Just a little different thought - tell me what you think! :)

SAF has been saying for ages he wants to have rooney in his natural position, which is up front. he had no choice but to play him in midfield with all the injuries we had back then, When we get a worldclass CM Rooney will be alot better of for it, and scoring even more goals. I think Kagawa will link up very well with him and they both could become a good partnership.

It's important to use people's strengths. It is easier to find someone to play in midfield (maybe not quite to Scholes standard) than to find someone to score 30-35 goals per season. Rooney should really be left doing what he does best.

Move Rooney and where will the goals come from?
