If people think Queiroz modernised the game, they are wrong.
The only modernising Queiroz did was solidify our team instead of making them very open and cavalier like we were in the past. In the past, we had an all-out attack approach, the "you score, we'll score more" mentality. However, teams in Europe weren't like that. They were more organised, more defensive, more set to play against us. Our gung-ho approach didn't work against them as all they did was sit back and counter us. Sir Alex brought in Queiroz to solidify this side, to make them like other European teams in that they'll be more solid and won't take the gung-ho approach. He wasn't making us go for dribblers. He was making us more solid in midfield. He was the guy who helped make our defence solid from 2006 onwards along with making our midfield more disciplined rather than gung-ho like they were in the past. He tried to introduce defensive midfielders into the side, but this failed as our team wasn't adjusting to that. He tried to take a more defensive approach with us. He tried to make us play a more defensive 4-3-3, kind of like what Mourinho did with Chelsea. He was modernising us in that he was restricting us, making us more defensive and safe, like many football teams are now. This helped us in Europe as we weren't gung-ho against sides with a good defensive setup.
Queiroz wasn't the sole reason we got C. Ronaldo and "dribblers." Sir Alex was the guy who kept us playing attacking football. Him and Phelan are the people who allow us to play attacking football that all of you so crave. Meulensteen is the guy who helps players develop their dribbling skills. All of you people who want Queiroz will see a return of defensive football from us.
