Pijo:Who cares what number shirt they will wear?! What possible difference could that make? Absolutely none. Do you think Ronaldo was a great player because he wore number 7? Or perhaps it was because he worked hard and trained well when he was younger, and his training and match performance actually yielded the results, rather than a number on his back. What about Vidic though? He wears number 15, but wait, that isn't a first-team defenders number? How can he be a good player? Really the most pointless debate of all the ridiculous topics on here.
You obviously know nothing about football. about tradition. about history. about Manchester United. I would be surprised if you one day said that football was pointless and that you don't get the logic behind 22 men chasing one small round thing on that green grassy thing. The no. 7 jersey is part of our tradition and history and the men who have previously worn it have made it more important than all our other squad numbers. I'm dismayed to have to educate you on this.
Yeah, I "obviously" know nothing about football. It's the typical view of the football terrace moron that you think yourself superior to another person because they fail to see how the significance of a number on the back of someone's shirt makes a blind bit of difference. It's the same pathetic argument that people like you sling around when someone has a different view to you when you say "But how many matches have you ever been to?" in response to any comment.
Yes, the number 7 has had a few good players wear it in the past, but it did not, in any way, shape or form, contribute to the standard or quality of their play. It is not in any imaginable way more important than any other number on the backs of any other player. What is important, and the absolutely unquestionable singular importance is how well the wearer of said shirt plays. Ronaldo would have been as great a player if he'd worn any other number, as would Cantona or Best. It makes no difference whatsoever except to materialistic bandwagoners such as yourself.
Case in point, by the way, that you think you know it all about football: you highlight the number 7 jersey as the most important, however, if we were being sentimental and traditionalist I would strongly suggest that the number 11 were to be the most significant - due to the fact that the most highly decorated player in the history of English football, who also happens to be the player with the most appearances for Manchester United wears it.
