    Re: Singing/Ultras section???

I think your main mistake here michael is using the term Ultra. But i do see what u mean

so lets flip it, "traditional supporter " tend to congregate in a stand or both stands behind a goal

allowing us more freedom of expression would create more colour. Presently, what we bring in terms of banners and flags is heavily restricted and censored

    flag pole length etc

other aspects have to be allowed to happen naturally

you cant force it otherwise it appears cheap and people dont bother

unfortunantly everything now works against areas Like this forming

its why you've seen the decline, 20 years ago we had "ultra" sections, stretford end and scoreboard paddock. People knew if u wanted a mad time u went their, its why the average age was so low. Oldies tended to want a quieter time, they sat in the united road etc

but those days are gone, Uniteds fanbase has changed, the habits of peoples football going are different, so the best we can hope for is a bit more freedom to bring a banner or two and sing songs, hopefully it at least gives people who want to show support this way a chance

but creating an "ultras" section is a no, its plastic and would be a complete totally hypocritical by the club after they spent 20 years doing their best to change old trafford into a friendly, tourist day out experience for all

    Re: Singing/Ultras section???

if only every section was a "singing" section! What i've noticed is (it seems), the cheaper the seat, the better atmosphere at OT, and it's so frustrating, because those cheaper seats are furthest away from the pitch, and the atmosphere isn't as strong.

I think the fact that Utd is such a massive club now, has helped to ruin the atmosphere, because there are foreign fans who don't speak a word of English, therefore not taking part in any of the songs, but they're taking the seat of somebody who could help to enhance the atmosphere.. i'm not saying we shouldn't let foreign fans in, because that would just be stupid but i'm just saying maybe Utd should look to give more (not all of course) tickets to local fans.

Maybe make tickets slightly cheaper for the Greater Manchester region, to try get more local fans in.

Please don't get me wrong, i don't want for Utd to stop foreign fans, because some are great, i'm just saying maybe a few more local fans would make the stadium a better atmosphere.

Ultras is not a good idea. You can show passion for your team without the nickname Ultras.. Everyone in the stadium should show passion but the shouldn't be nuts, which Ultras often is. And if fights occur, it's the club who will take the ***. I think I could speak of all of us that we don't want that. The players and management don't want that either.
Not all Ultras groups fight mate, i agree with you to an extent in respect you don't need to be an Ultra to have passion for your team but like i said, i've seen that if Ultras groups are run properly they can increase atmosphere in the ground 10x.

Fair enough mate, not for everyone i suppose. I've been to several games where Ultras have been involved and have seen what a difference they can make to the stadium and atmosphere, just wondering how other United fans saw it.

    Singing/Ultras section???

With the idea for the singing section put on the back burner for another season, what do people think of this section being an Ultras section at Old Trafford when it is finally introduced? when it is This idea was floated several months ago, and opinion was largely split down the middle. Ultras sections bring amazing colour and atmosphere to stadiums whatever club they are from. A lot of publicity has been given to the Ultras sections in Poland and the Ukraine on the run up to the Euros with their right wing politics and views. This though gives for me a false impression of Ultras, there are Ultras groups at clubs throughout Europe who do a lot to fight ***, Fascism, Oppression etc.... which can be seen in the Alerta Network group of Ultras groups who all share these values and principles. As a regular match going Red and Season Ticket holder for next year, i have noticed the steady decline in atmosphere over the last 15 years or so which is a shame as there has never been a lack of passion from United fans for the club in my eyes. Several factors contribute to the lack of atmosphere at the ground which have been covered in countless threads in this and other forums over a period of time. I'm simply asking the question, are fans open to an Ultras section within the stadium?? Would there be sufficient interest to make this a possibility? The singing section is a step in the right direction, but still a fair bit to go even after this. Opinions and feedback on this welcome.
