come on utd:Hello all first post but would just like to say that although there is a lot of negativity on this page I am encouraged by SAF this summer. Kawaga and Powell signed and with the euros coming to a conclusion I can see one or two more signings. would like to say it does make me laugh when I read certain peoples opinions on MU and SAF could you imagine our club if SAF had never taken the manager post? We would not even be dreaming of a potential 20th title next season!! As for our current squad I realise there is room for improvement - (there always is) and I was disappointed with our performance in Europe but we missed out on the title by goal difference and two minutes!!!!!! We are not far behind a club that has had money poured into it for the past few seasons and had a similar fate in Europe! I know people are screaming out for a big signing but trust SAF he is in the last year or two of his career and will not want his last memory of managing be city finishing ahead of us and winning everything. He will want to go out on top and that is something I am sure he will achieve.I also see many of us like the new faces at Old Trafford for next season, but fail to know that even with those new faces, we shall need a very good coach to bring the best out of them or even better. For the moment i dont think we have that sort of person which is why for me, i think a new number two is the most important signing we need. Dont like this idea of bringing in good players and then try to turn them into wingers. Fact is that is all we tend to do now days. We mention the younger players, but these boys need inspirational kind of players to learn from so they play for the shirt with pride. The honest truth is that Carrick has gotten a chance no other midfield acquisitions have been given but he is still no hope (just gutless): even failed to make the England team a player whose featured consistently in the team. Being that he is getting older, i pray Cleverly stays fit and takes over his place.
Kagawa is a HUGE signing! Why can't people see that? Honestly, he's one of the most exciting midfield prospects around, no matter what, 17 goals and 13 assists as a midfielder is UNREAL in the german league.
Are you people just too blind to see past the transfer price/wage bill. Why go for those overpaid prima donnas, when you can have a humble lad like this, who appreciates that a club as large as ours wants him. When we make a big signing, i.e. Berbatov, you slap unrealistic expectations of him, then call him a flop and say "OH WE SHOULDN'T HAVE SIGNED HIM!!!!!" but when we make a genuinely class signing like kagawa, all of a sudden fergie doesn't want to spend? Seriously guys, not cool. Also, if our younger lads, who have been here when scholes and giggs were in their prime, cannot draw inspiration from them, I am at a loss for words.
Finally its not that Carrick didn't get picked, its just that he withdrew from the squad and rightfully so. Some people see it as turning his back on his country. but I see it differently. For his whole career, he's lent his services to his country, only to be overlooked time and time again. Now, he's at an age in which he should be withdrawing from international football, because even a small injury may take a month to heal. He would risk missing the entire pre season and for what? Sitting on a bench watching england get hammered while the manager refuses to sub you in?
Let's not forget 2 things. Firstly, carrick said he would participate if he would be promised first team starts. NOT EVERY GAME. Just the guarantee that he would start games. Secondly, players get injured in training. Barry got injured in training that's why he was forced to withdraw. If he's not going to start games, there's no point risking it. He's contributed enough.
