    Re: Improvements In Defence

I think all we need is another LB to give Evra some much needed competition that would be good.At CB we have enough cover while Jones and Smalling can also cover at RB when needed and do a good job.

The obvious choice is Baines. A lot of people are saying he's not Utd quality which for me is ridiculous. Evra has been fantastic for us up until about two seasons ago and imo Baines offers the same qualities as Evra but with far superior crossing ability and set piece delivery. If anyone can suggest a left back who offers more than what Baines offers for under 15m and i will be willing to consider them a possibility but until then he is by far the best choice. Many people go on to say oh but Barca got Alba for far less etc. For me Alba is terrible defensively and is over-rated. Also we need a player who can defend as well as attack and Baines offers this as much as anyone else out there.

For the record, Jonny Evans has been very solid for us this season. He's not Vidic but he has been our best defender.

Everyone seems to think that it's okay to use Smalling/Jones as backups for Rafael but I would really like to see a solid right back come to the team. Nathaniel Clyne is a cheap option but I would like to see maybe Mathieu Debuchy come to United 'cause we would become so much more solid at the back. Rafael will have to develop his game a lot for us to become a great right back. Rafael is more of a wing back to me rather than full back. And Evra needs a solid challenger or needs to be replaced. Leighton Baines is a good replacement. If we get him we might see Evra leave too. We have already seen Ji-Sung Park go so anything can happen. Otherwise I would see Evra stay with United buying Jetro Willems or someone like that to challenge him for the spot. Fábio is a right-footed player so he wouldn't become the ultimate left-back. Otherwise.. I'm pretty satisfied. When Rio Ferdinand leaves the club we'll probably have a ''academy'' player ready like Michael Keane or Tom Thorpe or someone like that. If Vidic leaves us we'll get Kyriakos Papadopoulos as a replacement.

I couldn't disagree with you more, I thought J.Evans really stepped up to the mark last season. Was consistently our best defender. Vidic was a huge blow but i think Evan's softened it and i think it's Rio that's at risk of losing out when vidic gets back. We have Rafa, Smalling, Jones who can all play RB. Evans, Vidic, Rio, Smalling and Jones who can all play CB, so it's really only a LB as competition for Evra that's needed. So i think we are sound at the back once Baines arrives!!!! I'm more concerned with sorting our Midfield.

All we need is a left back to give Evra competition and to fill in while Fabio gains experience. Vidic will hopefully be back for next season if brought back slowly. I totally disagree about Evans. He was one of our best players last season and was the reason why Vidic's absence was not quite so obvious. In fact he was pretty much solid the whole season. Rafael can be caught out but he will learn as he gains experience so to me we are in pretty good shape as long as we buy a quality left back who can slot right in.

    Improvements In Defence

Last season we lost far too many points from winning postions,Especially towards the end of the season. So let's see what we have at our disposal.Personally I think our best back four is Evra,Rio,Vidic,Jones. Now I don't know how far away Vidic is to match fitness yet but it was clear that he was missed last season. J.Evans is not to the United standard yet,Rafael is good attacking but suspect at the back and Smalling is pretty good. I have heard reports about us making a move for baines but if they are true remains to be seen.I want to know if you agree that we need to improve the defence,And if so who shall we replace and with who?
