i have been following utd a long time and im pretty certain well im 100% certain it will only be baines there wont be another signing mark my words there will not be two singings i think we have done poor really if you think about it we all admit we played really badly last season and we have only got 1 player kagawa who looks good the rest are for the future powel etc we need someone else i think central mider to help us get back to wining ways

Hopefully, we will get our cm signing. And to be perfectly honest, I don't really mind anyone as long as he remains quality (of course) and help us reinforce that area of the pitch where we have no choice but to reinfroce if we want to avoid another desillusion in Europe or even the BPL where so many teams seemed to outplay us in that department. If Ando and Cleverley could both remain fit all season, we would be fine, but we know they won't, and we know Fletcher is unfortunately out for the long-term, not to say forever. I can't believe we wuld again rely on Scholes and Giggs to fill the gaps, with Carrick being the only consistent midfielder we have. I couldn't even imagine what would happen if he picked up a long-term injury...

I also expect us to sign Baines, like many on here.

LB is absolute must, nobody can seriously think that having only one proper LB (that is already aging and bit on decline already to add to that) is enough. Seriously if Evra breaks a leg or something United would have to go with either Jones or Evans as LB and neither really is very familiar with that position. Evra needs proper competition at LB position and that can't be overlooked. Only other position is CM and more importantly bit more defence minded CM to cover up the back four but this isn't as important as LB even tough it would seriously boost the chances for silverware. So Baines or some other LB and some central midfielder Modric would be optimal.

I cant see modric or mouthnhio now fergie has said he is going to play powell in central midfield. that emans we have scholes, cleverley, powell, anderson, giggs and petrucci for one position. Martinez would eb the one ild go all out for. we only ahve carrick and tunnicliffe there (and I dont think tunnicliffe is ready). But for a few months we have been linked with wingers who can also play behind a striker, we know we bid for hazard. Gaitan was mentioned, then rodriguez and now its moura. So it does look likely to be real interest.

Its most definitely going to be Baines, what with Fabio going out on loan and us having no cover for Evra as he played alot last season and he needs to be rested obviously and some would argue could do with being dropped sometimes with his loss of form the last couple of seasons so having someone like Baines competing for his place can only be healthy.

If there is a second signing I'm really hoping it is going to be Modric but I just can't see us offering more than £25m for him which Levy will just dismiss instanstly

Im hoping its Baines. Considering our finances we would be very unlikely to get a second "big" signing.......... all im thinking of is improving th eteam sufficiently to get our trophy back. We have options now in midfield..................i dont think there is any emergency to sign more attacking players. tighten up at the back and with baines + vidic back... we will be well placed to beat city to the title this year. as for RVP? no chance. my money is firmly on baines and i think it will be announced before the summer tour.

I would say Baines is a done deal and maybe either Moura or Moutino, but I would only put money on Baines coming.

Baines and then one of Modric/Moutinho/Strootman/Lucas... All depending on which one we have solid interest in and will go for.

Modric is going to Real, Moutinho is gonna replace him in Toth.... so forget bout them ....

Strootmen will not come although i would love him here ....

We might bid for lucas ... but that's about it .. just bid ... then he's gonna say ... i want to stay 1 more season here ... etc... i want to develop .. etc..etc...

just listened to the press conference there and tbh it sounds like its baines and we are done bar someone becoming available that we can possibly get. from the sounds of it modric is off to madrid and i dont see us buying a midfielder for the sake of buying one. he will only go for someone he feels will add to our squad.

Kinda have to buy a cmf or two now especially as fletch's career seems over we do not want another hargreaves/owen buy someone and let fletch retire and coach. We need transfers badly in the cmf area lets not be dragging our heels.

Exactly what I think. What he said means both players we're after played at the Euros. Lucas is obviously from Brazil, and therefore the rumours about us signing him are probably tosh. I think we're definitely getting Baines to sure up the LB position. I'd say that's basically a done deal now. I'd be ecstatic if we could just get that second signing and hopefully it's a midfield player. Someone like Modric, Moutinho or Strootman.

Agree^ the one area all fans, journalists and people in the know say utd are lacking is in Central midfield, especially one with bite. This has been the case for 2 seasons now. So what do we do when we lose fletcher possibly for good, sell park and see pogba leave all who could do that job. we sign no one in that area. If carrick gets injured we will be in a lot of trouble and even he doesnt provide that steel that fletcher or hargreaves did. Gotta hope tunnicliffe can jump straight in. city have toure, madrid khederia, barca busquets/ mascherano, liverpool lucas, spurs parker, chelsea essien, for me martinez was the clear choice this summer. He could leave for 30m. I know thats a lot for a more defensive player but we paid that out fro rio and 30m then was more like 40m now. martinez was the player who could really have completed our team. kagawa for 12m (rising to 17m) was a fantastic bit of buisness. But martinez for 30m to go with him would have been fine. we prob could have still got powell too. kagawa 12, powell 4, martinez 30 =46m, less than what we spent last summer. plus with 2m from park, 1m for de laet, 1m for james, owen and kuszeck wages off the books. norwood 400k, berbatov likely to go for 8m. plus question marks over macheda (4m), bebe (2m) and anderson (6m) = 24.4 m in sales. total outlay of 21.6m with lower wages keep fabio and have him and evra as left backs. Then sign a new left back next summer. Tunnicliffe could have gone on loan to a premiership club to gain much needed experience affordable and what a team we would have had
