Re: Is Tyler Blackett a good enough back up for Evra??

Not yet. Next year he can be judged more when he steps up to the reserves. Also, it'll be nice to see how he gets on in the pre-season tour.
Why does he have to step up to reserves first......He is good enough and strong enough Now for first team.......... I would ease him in, this season.........

Just come across this article in the Mirror saying that cos of the shortage of LB's at Utd, the club are gunna be forced to play a young kid on tour in starting in South Africa. But to those who have seen him, is he a good enough deputy to Evra or do we need to bring someone in with more experience?? http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manchester-united-defender-tyler-blackett-1143167
He's good but he ain't ready for a place in the first team yet.
what is love? Manchester United is love

Although he may be moulded into a left back, i think Tylers best position is undoubtedly at centre back. He's strong, can read the game well and has good distribution. I have been far more impressed with him when he has played there for the U18's rather than left back! Reminds me of a young Ledley King....with a killer shot! lol

I don't think he is good enough but could make a good case if he does well on the tour as the only LB atm.
How many times have you seen him play for the academy?

    zero times

Our priority should be LB, we are well short in that position, we only have Evra as our only experienced reconized LB, should the unthinkable happen and Evra get injured or suspended, were screwed, you could say Blackett could cover, but is throwing him in at the deep end to much for the lad, letting Fabio go out on loan could be a mistake. I really hope Blackett makes it utd, but we need to blood him slowly, i like nothing more than seeing a player come through the ranks at utd, think its better than a new signing

I'm open to the prospect of an academy graduate to get a chance on pre-season to play some time at left back. Presumably, that was what the manager would have liked to do with Fryers, only he moved to Spurs. It'd be nice to see, as I'd rather not see the club spend in excess of £15m to land Baines, not when that money could go in to investing in a natural right back to compete with Rafael.

Simaler style to Roberto Carlos then
wow, wow, wow, no! He's like 6ft2 and strong, defensive type LB... not small, attacking type... he's got a powerful shot, but he's not like Carlos
I wouldn't say he was a defensive type LB tbh. I think he's a good defender but could and will improve in that area, but I think he's fantastic going forward. He's more like Ashley Cole than Roberto Carlos. A star in the making IMO.
