Did you not see that there was a first part to that tweet? There appeared to be some sort of competition with Cartoon Network that he was running, I'm guessing the prize was to train with him:

Congratulations to all the winners of my tournament in collaboration with Cartoon Network. 1/2

I look forward to meeting you all for a training session soon! 2/2

we are manchester united just thought i would remind some people this we are the greatest club in the world and all im hearing is we have hernandez welbeck he will stop theyre development and you all think we can compete for champions league lmfao van persie is 1 of the best strikers in the world and to think of rooney kagawa and van persie in an attacking 3 will give us the deadliest attack in england and we will be challenging for everything rooney and van persie together just the thought is already making me xxxx 2 strikers who can each score 30 plus a season and with kagawa feeding them im sorry but if any of you wouldnt want van persie hear you are nuts just had a look on the arsenal forum and they are all saying how scary them 3 attacking players will be and we will be the strongest team in europe with vidic back too even arsenal fans can admit so what he hell is wrong with everyone seriously we have the chance of signing the best striker and most deadliest finisher in the premier league for 20 mill and you are all saying no
THIS!, Im sorry but hindering our youngsters development? You lot are beginning to sound like Wenger!. Were in the present we want to win things now, have the best players NOW. not in a few years well have maybe word class players, im just being realistic. Welbeck is a fanatastic talent but anyone who says theyd pick him over Van persie talks utter ***. and tbh I may get slaughtered for this but I thought Rooney looked out of sorts last season i know he scored 27 league goals, but maybe he needs someone like Van persie as a challenge to make him step his game up
This is such a narrow minded commend it is untrue. What you have just said basically means you don't care about youth development you just want the best players right now and that's that. This simply is not sustainable. So we sign Van Persie for 25m+ he may well play fantastic for 3 seasons or so but after this we sell him for next to nothing and using your policy we go and shell out another massive transfer fee on another established striker. Scoring goals was not our problem last season it is as simple as that.
I don't understand why people always say that purchasing players hinders youth development. Sure it gives them less games and experience, but it also forces younger players to raise their level of play to try and get in the team. If Fergie was the type of manager that didn't give youth a chance because he would be too afraid to drop star players then i could see an argument. But since we all know that Fergie is not that type of manager, I see it less. I understand that it could make young players less satisfied with playing time and maybe wanting to leave the club, but it not as if players stop developing at the same rate when another player is bought, that's absurd.
I wouldn't say purchasing any player hinders Welbeck's development I would say signing a player such as Van Persie certainly would. First of all there is no way of fitting him in the starting 11 since Kagawa will be played further up the pitch. The main reason though is that he is an established striker and would demand a starting place the same as Rooney would for example. There is no way he would sit on the bench so therefore hernandez and especially Welbeck would be reduced to the bench. Of course he won't stop developing but he will develop and improve much quicker by playing against solid defenses every week. Not many people agree but i would rather let Welbeck develop and improve than spend 25+m on Van Persie who is a massive risk and only provides a solution for 2-3 years.
I agree with you in that I think that Van Persie might not be the smartest purchase. I just think that "it hinders youth development" argument is bogus. Players don't stop developing because another player comes in. You are right about them not being happy with their roles on the bench and maybe wanting to leave, but that is different from development. I totally agree that RVP would be a luxury purchase if it happened, and right now I think we have a few real needs that should be filled before we start with luxuries.

Re: Van persie- Do we really need him?

We don't really need him, but when some1 of RVP calibre becomes avail then you should at least try to sign him. Imagine what a strike force he and Rooney. Wow

Yep and until a transfer is 100% complete RVP and any other player will still be obligated to attend training sessions.
Totally would be so disrespectful if not

It means that he has to train no matter what happens.

Hell Adebayor wants to leave City and City want him to leave and yet he is back training with them.

It means nothing really. Only solid thing you can get from that is that he has mates at Arsenal that he is looking forward to seeing.

I agree mate.Despite Van Persie wanting to leave he still has to train to keep him in shape and shoe respect etc. After all he is meant to be professional.

This something like what I would have said but maybe I wouldnt have worded it so well.

A player has to train with their existing club until their transfer is complete, even if they are 1/2 way through a transfer.

There is still a chance he will still be at Arsenal when the transfer window closes so it would be foolish to keep saying you are looking to leave. That tweet was just another step in keeping the fans and club happy.

Age, transfer fee, wages, not the main priority, injury prone?

Need I continue? Welbeck is a better player at his age then Van Persie was at the same age. Why destroy his confidence and risk losing Welbeck by bringing in a striker who isnt needed

If we are to bring in RVP then we HAVE to sell Berba and maybe even Hernandez first.. I dont think Fergie would let us turn into City where we stockpile strikers without getting rid of the ones we dont want.

I agree mate.I would rather keep Macheda Hernandez and Welbeck as these strikers are still very young can develop into much better strikers.Signing Van Persie wouldnt make sense.Plus Berbatov might still stay yet.
