Re: DARREN FLETCHER WITH SCOTLAND SQUAD!

Very likely he won't make it at high enough level to play at United but bigger miracles has happened. Can't really see what Fletcher has to offer if his energy takes big hit since he actually isn't the most talented midfielder just very versatile busy player that has high work rate. If you take his workrate and ability to run tirelessly away he really doesn't have much left. Time will tell but if you are realistic he shouldn't have any chance at all to make it to United squad this season.

Do you think he could play another type of role? His passing isn't bad.
Possible. It'd take months of training to properly convert him to excel at that role.

He's only training with the Scotland squad, he hasn't been called up to the friendly squad (as far as I'm aware).

I'd love to see him fit again but I can't see it. Fergie will give him a season though to prove himself which means we won't see a midfield signing considering Giggs and Scholes can play in there also!

Dont get your hopes too high.......He has still a long long way to go...........
Pretty much. There is still a high chance of a relapse like last time. He's only started training. How he'll be feeling in 3-4 months times will be the crucial point. Even if Fletcher does get fit again, whether he will be the same player again is doubtful. His game has always relied heavily on energy.

I'm probably sounding very pessimistic here but I'm one who was a big fan of Fletch even when he was first starting out. I just don't want to get my hopes up prematurely.

At the end of training Sir Matt required the players to practice the things they were bad at for the last half hour

    Fletcher to train with Scots

Midfielder is back in training with Man Utd according to Levein

Darren Fletcher took a big step on the road to recovery after Scotland boss Craig Levein announced he will link up with the national squad.

The 28-year-old Manchester United man has been sidelined since a Champions League match against Benfica in late November with a chronic bowel problem.

There had been fears that the Scotland skipper may never play again as doctors initially struggled to identify the mystery illness that struck him down.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson caused more concern when he revealed in July that Fletcher was yet train with the rest of the squad.

    Practice match

But the midfielder has always maintained he would fight his way back to full fitness and has recently returned to training at the club's Carrington base where he has been put through his paces.

Now he has been handed a massive boost in his battle by being invited to get involved with the Scotland squad ahead of their friendly match against Australia on Wednesday 15th August.

"Darren will be with us at the weekend," said Levein. "He is back in training and he played 45 minutes in a practice match last week.

"He is not in the squad because he has not played for Manchester United but he will come back and do a bit of training with us."

Mmmm... great he'll get fit just in time to have to take more time off when his cysts flare up again

I feel for the poor guy.. what a battler to have in midfielder against the good teams! But I don't think football is a practical option for him atm. Managing his health is more important.

PAUL SCHOLES Im not a man of many words but I can honestly say playing football is all I ever wanted to do
