No idea why we want him and we dont need him to be honest. We've already got five strikers on the books. What ever money we have should be used to strengthen midfield and leftback.
I agree Michael Ballard, we don't need RVP here. Plus, a lot of so called fans on here think that the strikers were the problem last season. But really the problem last season was the midfield.
In 1999 we won the treble with 4 top ST and SAF has always said he believes in having 4 top ST . Ive grow up with that philosophy so if that makes me a so called fan then by all means.
I was talking about the so called fans in general, not necessarily you.
I think the having 5 strikers on the books is only relative to who they are and not how many. Off the top of my head i can think of 6 CMs on our books but i know we are crying out for a quality CM. Thats because only 2 of them are quality. Its the same with the strikers. Quality to play now in this moment and not quantity

so if someone has a different opinion to you they are called "so called fans"? grow up. you're no better a fan than the next one. The only reason strikers were not the problem was because rooney scored 27 goals, without rooney scoring that amount of goals then yes we would have had a striker problem. rooney scored more goals than hernandez and welbeck. combined.
Why don't you grow up ronan99? I am allowed to agree with someone.

How did what I said turn into a debate about who's a fan and who isn't? This forum is ridiculous lol

I think if we get a chance to buy a quality CM we will take it but there isn't any players on the market that are properly valued at the moment
but thats been the excuse for the past 2 summers! at some point we have to just admit CM's cost a fortune nowadays becuase the are so key to the modern game.

we just have to bite the bulit and pay, no one surely is going to sit thier and claim taht we can't find 1 decent center midfielder for the 30 million we are reportedly prepared to pay for lucas? cos thats just nonsense!!
I agree you could find a top quality player for 30m but it might not be the kind of player SAF wants i.e the player is defensive mind or something like that. on the 30m on Lucas, that is one thing i can't understand

people want a midfielder but there is no midfielder available and if they are available they are for astronomical prices. 20 million even 25 million for van persie is a bargain. he will bring more to the team than a second choice left back.
the reason midfielders are atronomical prices is beacase most modern teams (espically in eurpoeon competions) center around the CM, so good CM's are like gold dust. and it all good saying we don't a second left back, what happens if evra gets an injury and is out for 6 months? or carrick? we have one LB and DM and thier both 31!! iit would be nuts to go into a season like that it just asking for trouble! if last seaosn taught us anything is thaty you need cover for injurys, we don't have that at LB or midfield. get your bases coverd then indulge if thier are funds left!!
but how do you get a left back to sign when he knows he is just being bought as cover? i could make the same argument about rooney, if rooney got injured we would be ***, the aim of the game is to put the ball in the net, having van persie there give us more of a chance to do so..football is a simple game that people like to over complicate..yes most teams play with creative midfielders but fergie doesn't, the man is 70 years old he is hardly going to change his philosophy now..we have always and will always play with wingers as long as fergie is the manager.
you honestly think we couldn't sign one decnt LB? evryone knows evra is aging and his place is up for grabs in the next season or so im sure loads of left backs would jump at the chance. can you name another not team aiming to compete succesfully in 4 tropthys wit only 1 left back?? come of it it would be maddness!!

as for not playing with creative midfeilders, what do you think scholes does for us? i think most people would agree he is arguably the best creative midfielder the premier leage has ever known!! but he can't play every week( rember we payed the price when he was rested at stoke??) and struglle when teams play with pace agasint him(see the everton and city games) not to mention this season he will have not had 6 moths of this year to rest and will have to play a full season with all th europeon games to boot, and yes maybe clevery can step up but maybe not, he struggled to even make the bench in the last 3 months of last season so who knowes

and i was mainly talking about was DM, we only have carrick. im just trying to show how short we are in some area's and how insane it is going into a season in these circumstances!!

look how badly aresna struggles last season when they had no fit left back!! and they had RVP on the form of his life. you can't just have a team of wingers and strikers!!! you need a good base from which they can play off.

and im not asking or expecting fergie to change his tactics, im simply saying make sure the rest of the team is strong enought to support the wings and forwards

don't turn this into the moure circus thread. And not about saying the strikers were the problem, its about van persie coming here is too good to turn down. How would you think we would cope if rooney went long term injury?
what are you on about i want us to sign van persie.
sorry ronan i was answering the "so called fans" remark by andrea. Its all about opinions and not attacks

city have a great arsenal of forwards. we have only rooney! him gone for whatever reason (injury, suspension, bad form)we will struggle to stay at top 4! pretty simple. rvp or another top forward will bring 20+ goals. maybe if we had that last season we would have won premiership... i say we should sign daimo instead of lucas, and eriksen instead of rvp. it would cost us less and give what we need in the positons we need more. a top team need at least 2 quality forwards. and we just have one now who we are far to dependent of.
