    Re: expanding Old Trafford....

That'd be amazing if it was in excess of 100,000. However it's hard to see not only how it could be achieved but also why it would be necessary; almost 76,000 is more than enough to create a daunting atmosphere for opposition, yet at times the stadium is like a library, or a morgue. A case of quality not quantity me thinks.

i would love for us to play in front of 100,000 but only if at least half of the 100k sang instead of sitting there in silence
This, as it is the stadium is filled with people who do little to support the club, the last thing we want is to make OT another Nou Camp were there's plenty of seats, but little atmosphere. But id love for us to have 100,000 seats but heard nothing of it. I thought we expanded it as much as we could, but if we were going to expand it anymore ticket prices (could but won't) be reduced and they need to remodel the architecter of it. I love OT but looking at it with no fans, it's ugly because of all the stairways and everything IMO, it's not properly organized. But if they were, as I said, Sir Alex should have huge recognition there, like I don't know, more then a statue and a stand named after him. After all he is the best manager that ever lived.

They wont expand OT, because lets face it, we and yes a big WE in alot of games are stuggling to sell out, ie advertising and constant text messages asking us to buy more tickets, and now still selling season tickets with 10 home games to go......Ok the big games no problem, but Ide hate us to look at a stadium full of empty seats it looks ugly..

For some reason that takes you to a search engine! Might need to check that mate.

It's probably the same article I read though, here it is:

So I think it's more to do with the money side of things unfortunately!

It probably did work when I first posted it back in August!!

    Re: expanding Old Trafford....

The only thing holding utd back in developing the whole stadium is the debt. Anything else is nonsense. If anything in a recession it is the best time to develop the stadium. Cheap labour. Well 'cheap' in Western standards. Utd have bought up most of the houses and have first option when the rest are sold. Also houses in this area near the stadium are mostly rented accommodation and in the recession house values have dropped, so cheaper. With regard to the railway line the stand can be easily built over it like stadiums have done on the continent.

With regard to the expansion of the stadium lacking in atmosphere, well thats due to a lot of fans being priced out of season tickets. With the stadium expansion to say 1,00,000 the price in tickets could do down at the same time paying easily for the construction payments and add to the further profit in ticket money.

I have a sense of myself but I'm not too aware!

I remember reading somewhere a few years ago that the estimators said it would cost somewhere around 100 million, that with buying the house and building the railway underneath the stadium.

    Re: expanding Old Trafford....

Can't see us increasing the stadium to a 100,000 capacity to be honest. And anyway its not exactly small is it...

I'd rather we focussed on improving the atmosphere. Perhaps increasing the capacity will do that but if we are looking for cheaper options I think, if possible, we should introduce a singing section. Anything to just liven the place up a bit. Its gotten to the point where the atmosphere is only good on the big games (Liverpool, Chelsea etc.).

If the atmosphere improved for the smaller games, Old Trafford would be a much more intimidating place to play football for the opposition.

    Does anyone ever read these?

To be fair mate since the club has started to attract the day trippers and I'm not saying all of them are bad just most of them they see it as a day out and a maybe once in a lifetime experience, so they don't sing or chant and that doesn't help. Certain games like the Liverpool one just gone the place was rocking its just a shame it isn't like that every game again if you go back to the game v that wee club a few weeks ago ha! Newcastle, when we went behind it seemed like the whole ground was pushing the lads on we need more of that. Plenty more of that!

Honestly can't see the expansion happening, that South stand is as big as it's going to get I think, there's a railroad and houses behind there, to buy that land, it would cost an astronomical amount of money, I think 76,000 will be the absolute capacity, I cannot see how we could get another 25,000 in, even with another tier on the South Stand, we'd have to completely restructure the shape of the place, I can't see it happening unfortunately.

Personally, if we don't sort the singing issues out, the stadium is too big in my eyes, we've been the demons of our own success with such a big stadium, it is like a library sometimes and wished this singing section came about.
yer the singing section would be good but it got turned down because of health and safety bacicly if th city fans do the partzan it could be dangerous but i as thinking why not make the stretford end (west stand) the signing section but i know the msot noise comes for the east stand
