Re: David Gill: “We are aiming to bring a few players in soon."

    Captain Marvel No.7:
With Moura, do you honestly think United would pay anywhere near £45m for a player? There's no way we agreed a fee for him if he was sold at that price, no chance.

I reckon we probably had the basics agreed with Sau Paulo and Moura, with the transfer around £30m and his wages settled. Then his agent, who was negative about the prospect of Moura joining United from the start, probably demanded a huge payment which we refused to pay, a la Nasri, and so he went and encouraged PSG to bid.

David Gill looks like he has aged about 20 years over the summer. People can say what they like, but his job isn't easy.
    agree...aint easy at all...
You two are right, his job isnt easy.

Basically he's the Chief Executive of one of the biggest football clubs in the world and every deal he negotiates he is penny pinching wherever he can on United's behalf. Is that his fault? No, but the sh1t that comes out of his mouth makes people think United have the financial muscle to compete for the best players. Putting it simply, they dont.

I'm not saying we have a bottomless pit of money, like barca (who are in more debt than us I believe?), Real, City or PSG... But, we do have financial muscle. We just wont pay stupid fee's or wages as it would decimate the wage structure at the club. For example, we had agreed terms and fee's for both Moura and Hazard - agreed what we thought they were worth. If we were to then turn around and match Chelski's offer of reportedly 220k/week for Hazard, whats to stop Wellbeck, Chicha, Nani and Vidic demanding 200k/week deals? We operate within our means, but we've also had 2 30+mil offers turned down. So I wouldnt say we were a shrinking violet...
we don't have financial muscle, we buy players from the second tier because we can't persuade or afford the very top players. it seems to me that fergie thinks only rooney is worth 220k a week.
We may have to agree to disagree here.. We're not the sort of club to go and spend 100+ mil in one window, but we spent near on 60mil last summer, we've spent nearly 20 mil this summer (up till now) and had 2 x 30mil bids turned down.... I must say though, I'm glad we 'missed out' on Moura and Hazard, as it free's up money to invest where we really need it.
well my point still stands, we don't ever buy top tier players we buy 2nd tier players and hope they develop into a top tier player. when we try and sign a top top player we can never get the deal done. i bet we don't sign van persie even though he wants to play for us. we are so mean with money that we won't meet the asking price. again only rooney is apparently worth 220k a week according to fergie.

In a way .. the Glaziers taking out this much money might be a good thing

The chances of United spending money on transfers this summer has probably risen dramatically , because can you imagine the fans reaction if we dont spend money now ?

Fergie cannot exactly go down the " value in the market / agent fees " and then back the owners for pulling out $75m !

We'll pay that for the right player. A 19 year old Brazilian who has only played in the Brazilian league and a young Belgian playing in the French league? No. A player who was player of the year last season and is only second to Wayne Rooney in goals and assists over the last 3 premier league seasons (Van Persie)? Maybe.

nope it isn't easy being the devils spokesperson maybe if he had pride he wouldn't be such a sell out. Fergie has gone down in my estimation after publicly backing these crooks, he should have said nothing. we won't be signing van persie we will pretend we are interest but we wont meet the asking price..fergie can always say we tried but there is no value in the market.
Will there ever be a value in the market with our current finances? Prices r going up especially in wages FFP is not as strict as some would believe. We are going down the same path as Arsenal.

'aiming to' is the stand out bit of that post heading. It will be the same old *** come the end of summer I bet, I think although Van Persie would probably favour United over City for the sentimental value and success this club can bring players. But we'll do as we have done all summer and back down right at the end of the transfer saga, It honestly wouldn't suprise me if the whole failing with Hazard and Moura was a huge cover up, where we went into negotiations with a view to lose out on both players, in order to give the fans false hope on signings over summer, then come the end of the transfer window when we have no more signings as 'promised' there will be another cover up, which in secret, as usual we just didn't have the money. I'm not saying a fee indicates the success or quality of the player a club signs but its strange how the less expensive deals we always manage to see all the way through but the expensive assets we always hit a snag, seems a bit of a coinsidence when it happens on two ocassions in one summer
Moura's agent clearly stated that a fee had been agreed, and wages had also been agreed, we were just waiting for him to sign the dotted line... So your conspiracy theory is up in smoke. Also, we had agreed the fee and wages with Hazard, but again, he opted to go elsewhere. There isnt much more we can do really. How can you continue to negotiate, when all parties are in agreement? And again, this RVP fiasco is down to Wenger and his clowns. We cant negotiate if they don't come back with a counter offer......
We hadnt agreed a fee for Hazard though, Fergie said he thought Hazard was a good player but not worth £34m. He also said our valuation of him was way below that so how is that agreeing a fee?

With Moura, do you honestly think United would pay anywhere near £45m for a player? There's no way we agreed a fee for him if he was sold at that price, no chance.

This was just the first link I found on the Moura issue.... Manchester United did have an agreement to sign Brazil midfielder Lucas Moura, the player’s agent has claimed, before Paris Saint-Germain made a late move and swooped the youngster away from Old Trafford, ESPN has reported. Rather than head to the Premier League and Sir Alex Ferguson Moura is to join up with Carlo Ancelotti in Ligue 1 in January. PSG will pay Sao Paulo €45m for the 19-year-old, a figure that led to Ferguson claiming the game has gone mad if a club is willing to pay so much for someone so young. Moura’s agent, Wagner Ribeiro, confirmed it was the intervention of PSG director Leonardo who diverted Moura way from Man Utd. Ribeiro said: “Everything was agreed between Sao Paulo and Manchester United…but then Leonardo called me and asked to talk to Lucas. http://www.adifferentleague.co.uk/p6_1_16134_man-utd-had-reached-deal-for-lucas-moura-claims-agent.html
