The flotation documents reportedly said we'd have a net spend this close sason of some £50M - I reckon we've spent around £40M cos RVP wasn't £24M upfront but perhaps £20M, Kagawa 13M, Henriques £2M plus add ons, Powell £2M plus add ons, and Buttner but we have got a few quid back for Park. However, £10M won't get us Martinez.. Even if we sell Berbatov we'll only about cover Buttner, Henriquez and Powell so still only have about £17M and that won't get him either. Solution?? Sell someone else. Anderson maybe but even then who'd pay for a player with a shocking injury record, so based on last night's shambolic efforts our #17 is a total waste of space AND yet may have a decent value.
Its easy to be wise after the event but I said on here last week we'd get bullied by Fellaini simply because our midfield is tiny and physically weak. Kagawa looked great, Scholes gives me the willies when he gets the ball deep now, and Cleverley somehow doesn't do it, but all of them are about 5 foot 7.
So we need Martinez and he can do 2 jobs as a CD or CM but other than offloading aforesaid Nani (Ninny or Numpty.. take your pick..) I can't see how we can afford him as he'll be thick end of £30M which we haven't got.
