I grew up in Newton Heath and it's always been Man United or just plain old United. It doesn't matter where you are in the world people will get what you mean unless ofcousre your a cockney. They say Man Utd all the time and it's awful.

Deaconred2, for your logging in problems, you could post a thread in the “Feedback & Queries” section explaining your problem and request the admins to add a “Remember My Sign-In Details” option to the login page. I’m sure they would help in making this option available asap. This should save you the trouble of creating new identities again and again. Hope this helps.

i live in Australia, so i can't really go to every game.......

but i do get up at 4.00 in the morning to watch a game even though i'm only 14

i've neva been to Old Trafford. I've been to England once and Manchester United tickets were sold out do i couldn't watch.

does that mean i'm not a good supporter???

If you get up at 4.00 in the morning to watch united play, you are a very good united supporter my friend. I know how difficult it is as I have to stay awake till 3 am to watch the champions league ties and then get back up in the morning to go to work.

It doesn't matter how many matches you have seen at Old Trafford, as a lot of United's overseas supporters including me dream about and would be privileged to step into the Theatre of Dreams and watch united play.

You're right saharat - I'm NOT  a TRUE Man Utd fan.  In fact many people would hesitate to call me a true football fan.

The main point of my post was to make the point that there is NO such thing as the TRUE fan - there is no ONE WAY and that people can express their support in many different ways.  No one person has the right to 'measure' the strength or otherwise of a supporter by saying eg - dont call us Man Utd.

Do I need to justify myself - well to you probably 'cos I dont think you have a great grasp of satire or wit.

I first attended OT in 1972 and have been going on a regular basis ever since.

i keep being unable to log in properly (dementia) and have to continualy change my alias

i have a season ticket for ANOTHER CLUB (well two or three seasontickets if you count children and local non-league teams)

I dont drink at football matches

I didn't want Liverpool to win against Milan.  I dont want liverpool to win anything - even the city of cutlure depressed me.

Many people like to say that United is their religion.  If they believe that then they dont really understand religion.  Football is a great, all-consuming passion of mine and has been for 50 years.  I have watched some of the great teams and players during that time and seen some fantastic games (the 7-1 Roma match being amongst the best) and despite having just done so I dont really think ANYBODY who comes on this site should have to justify themselves.

We are what we are.  Accept it and live with it instead of trying to put yourself forward as the one true torch-carrying believer mocking all others for not sharing your beliefs exactly.

    Savvy?

Well at first when I read your post I thought you were just another united fan who was not happy with this thread. But after I read your other posts, I sincerely believed you were a rival fan and having a go in our message board and am truly sorry if I was wrong.

I never used the word TRUE united fan and yes you are right, there is no ONE WAY in which you can show your support. No one has the right to measure how much of a supporter anyone else is. The thread just tells you the history of the word and why it does not go well with most united supporters and asks you to refrain from using it. No one is taking away your freedom to use it for whatever reasons as long as you know what it means or rather how it started.

If you disagreed with the post or the way in which it was written, maybe you could've put your point across in a better way rather than being satirical or mocking someone or calling someone a fascist.

A sore rival, evident from all of this person’s posts, comes to our forum, says a lot of things, but still doesn’t call our club Man * and what’s more helps keep this thread on top. Lessons to be learnt my fellow united supporters. Smile

......... in fact i think we should call Red Tide (nice name) RT - or Artie.

    Would it REALLY matter.

Think Malawi, Atomic Bomb and the price of fish and facism (oooo - there's a thing- facism that's what that Hitler man thought up when he wanted a master race of blue-eyed Aryans who all looked, thought and spoke the same - maybe it's Herr Artie)

i think red tide is 100% spot on.  there really does need to be a true test of whether someone is a TRUE follower or just a muppet that wants to spend a load of money.  My suggestions for  a TRUE follower:

    MUST have a season ticket

MUST really be in the Stetford End

must NOT refer to it as the WEST stand

MUST stand all through every game and must not give a toss about the kid sitting behind them who can't see

MUST sing every song - particularly those that criticise peasants from liverp**l

    MUST use asterisks for effect

MUST go to every away match

MUST be totally bladdered at every away match

favourite all time player must be from a list of Cantona, Giggs, Scholes, Law and Edwards

MUST drink Jack Daniels and (lots of coke)

should not be married but should have had a girlfriend once (not in the biblical sense)

    must be tolerant?????????????????????????
