The first hour was like watching United of a few seasons ago. I'm far from Carricks greatest fan but for me in the first half he was my motm, thought that Smalling had a good game, Jones with a bit of discipline could be a great signing, Rooney as normal was all over the pitch, RVP always has a goal in him, Young is starting to pick up his game and I thought that Cleverley had a good game although the whole team had a quiet second half.
But like always with us there's negatives although today there was a lot more plus's. Once Scholes and Giggs came on we all knew our attacking play would suffer and that we would be more vulnerable at the back which is exactly what happened in the second half, I'm a great fan of Valencia but this season his performances haven't been up to his usual standards. He had many chances to take his man on or get the ball into the box but a lot of the time he didn't do either. He actually slowed our play down today which is something I didn't think I would say.
All in all a good performance today, there's signs that its starting to come together. OK, it was against Sunderland but we have struggled a lot this season against this sort of opposition but one thing is clear, it has to be Scholars and Giggs's last season. When we sign a midfielder(s) I can see us once again being a team to be feared throughout Europe but at the minute we are just too lightweight.
