I cannot believe my eyes while reading some of the comments on here, a few supporters have genuinely embarassed themselves with some remarks. Manchester United games becoming boring? Sir Alex tactically inept? Utter rubbish.
While we perhaps do not break teams so easily as we used to, we have become much more cunning and cautious, but not boring, not in a million years. I write it down to Sir Alex's getting more and more mature as the years went on. We are no longer caught on the counter-attacks, conceding silly goals due to tactically wrong defensive movements(although this season two goals were conceded after the oppposition used the old trick of gathering our defence on one side, crossed the ball to the other where tall player out-jumped our small full-back Evra, -Bolton and Wolfsburg) or from set-pieces. Also, 9 out of 10 teams that come to Old Trafford will inevitably play 4-5-1 which, if performed well, is immensely difficult to score against and is excellent for counter-attack. So, patience is the key. Goals will always come at this football club, it is about staying strong at the back. When the first goal came in against Blackburn, we could have scored four more. And that's what it is all about. Patience till the opener, then it all goes the way us fans like.
Our recent CL successes are mainly down to the manager's tactical decisions and team selection. Sir Alex is a genius. Anyone remembers the line-up in Moscow? Hargreaves on the right, to prevent A.Cole overlapping, Ronaldo on the left where he scored from. It was a master-stroke. And despite a deserved loss in Rome, I still regard the decision to pressurize Barcelona's back four, even when the goalkeeper was about to restart the play, a class act.
You guys really think Sir Alex doesn't see our CM are not 'bombing forward'? Anyone perhaps concluded that it is due to the fear not to get easily caught on the break? If we need to score, they will go forward, no problem. Remember City and Sunderland? But, if it's nil-nil on 55 minutes at home, why take a chance?
One point I must agree is Nani. Despite SAF's steely determination to make the most of such a great talent, the lad is clearly running out of time and his confidence is extremely poor.
All the players get their chance at Man Utd. Tosic has improved a lot physically and learned a few things abot our play. His off-ball movement followed by a nice shot at Barnsley was a proof the lad is a real diamond, and I guess he will play in the second half of the season, with Giggs moving to centre-midfield and a big number of games taking their toll on Park and Nani. Mame and Ljajic will most likely feature regularly in the 2011/2012 season.
