Hi garcia.utd. !
Howzzit !
I live far away from England and I got interested in English, Scottish and World Football since the early sixties. Not to say I wasn't interested in Eire, Northern Ireland and Wales ! -- No ! -- I was, but there wasn't much that one could listen to, watch on tv or read in newspapers and magazines about those countries. If anyone would talk about Northern Ireland it was mostly because of George Best. John Charles, Mel Charles and Ivor Allchurch would be most talked about from the Welsh sides, but they weren't Manchester United players.
As much as I've seen George Best in action in many matches, I must admit, just like many million worldwide supporters, I've seen all those matches on television. The same for Denis Law, Bobby Charlton and the others.
Other than the 55 000 Old Trafford regulars of the 60s' and a handful of others, not many can boast having seen them live in action, except when they played in European or World competitions and going on tour during the holiday break.
However, if you're big enough you may travel/fly 12 000 kms to go and watch your favourite player in action and that of course if ,you can afford it. But then at that time I was too small and even if I could afford it (which I couldn't) , I wouldn't have been allowed to make such a long trip on my own.
I would have preferred to watch the trio of BEST LAW CHARLTON in action rather than the trio of GIGGS CANTONA RONALDO, as much as I rate Giggs very highly (No reference to which positions/time they played).
I would have loved to see George Best LIVE in action. Yes !
Cheers!
