Tosic got left off the 25 man squad but then isn't there is a second list that his age and I think short time with United meant he did not qualify for.

Didn't Anderson get left off the 25 man squad but due to his age and time with United he is still eligible?

I think this is the rule

UEFA rules permit any player born on or after 1 January 1988 who has been eligible to play for the club for any uninterrupted period of two years since his 15th birthday to be registered outside of the 25-man squad limit.

So what SAF did was use the rules to maximize his CL squad.  Some of the players mentioned here I think are part of the "outside" group, but I could be wrong.

Sir Alex Ferguson admits leaving out Zoran Tosic and Ritchie De Laet from United’s 25-man Champions League squad wasn’t easy.

Both players impressed during pre-season but neither will be eligible to play in the group stage of the forthcoming European campaign, which begins on Tuesday with a tricky fixture in Turkey.

Some papers had suggested Tosic’s exclusion was tantamount to the end of his United career, but Sir Alex was quick to dispel any such rumours.

“It was just a numbers decision,” the manager said. “We have such a massive squad now.

“The difficulty was around what we should do with Owen Hargreaves, whether or not to put him or Zoran in the squad. The other player [who narrowly missed out] was Ritchie De Laet.

“We came down on the side of Hargreaves because, having taken the medical advice, we think he’ll be available for the last three Champions League group-stage games.”

 I know fergie has all the experience and is a great manager, and I know I am not allowed to criticise the manager here. But why is Tosic not in ECL squad, why has fergie bought him if he has no faith in him. Tosic is a regular for serbia.

If 33.Hewson, 36.Gray, 37.Cathcart, 38.Zieler, 39.Chester, 40.Amos. can get in the squad why cant Tosic.Is he doing the same as what he did with Rossi when they said he was too lighweight so never gave him a chance and then when he went to Villareal he proved how good he is.

Can someone please enlighten me as from what Ive seen we could do with tosic in the 1st team ! he is a very good player.
