No idea.  Could be something to do with HTML or web links not being allowed in the signatures perhaps?

That has already happened partially.  You can only have 180 characters of text in your signatures at the moment.  Images are completely disabled for the forthcoming future but when they are reintroduced they are definitely going to be limited to just one image and only allowed to be a certain size as well.

There should be no problem with editing avatars though at the moment.

 It is my believe that they have removed certain facilities while they are carrying out the inprovements to the system.

They are trying to speed up connection time and by removing sigs this will help.

As you are aware some people went over the top with sigs and used up a whole page on their sigs.

It was almost like "Look at me with my sigs aren't I the Daddy !!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot see the need for them myself. But if it was restricted to a certain size then it should be  ok

 I've noticed I can no longer edit my Avatar or add signatures anyone know why?
