If he joined Liverpool i would still have a huge amount of respect for him. I would be shocked if they are the only team after him since his price tag is only a few million. A move back to Holland might be a safe bet.

 He will be nowhere near as good as when he left us but will still do an alright job for the team he signs for.

He'd barely get a game. He doesn't play well without a workhorse like Rooney alongside him. He wouldn't gel with Torres and, what with his age and injuries, they'd probably only get one season - maybe 20 appearances tops - out of him. 

It'd be blown up like the Owen signing was, but it would only reflect well on Fergi as Owen continues to play well in every other game whilst Rafa blows wage funds that they can't afford on a fella who's never out the treatment room.

I somewhat agree with the poster above. Despite all the host of superstars in Real Madrid, not even one of them is as good a finisher as Ruud is. If not for injuries, he would have continued his unbelieveable scoring record. Even now, his goalscoring record in Madrid reads 64 goals in 97 games (all competitions) and thats stunning even by La Liga standards.

Only thing I disagee with the above poster is about Saha. I think he's a pretty good player as well. If you exclude the injuries, I think his performances for us have been pretty good. Also think he played pretty well on Saturday. His movement looked reasonably sharp and his pivot strikes reminded me of his United days.

If the reports are true, its a very cunning move by Rafa. On the contrary, in spite of his age, Ruud is very lethal. I watched him play for us for 5 seasons, those kind of lethal instinct don't wear off through age. Its deadly. Liverpool has nothing to lose by signing Ruud as Torres is already missing through injury. Even if Torres is back, Gerrard could be moved deeper in the midfield to pair with Aqualani, while Torres and Ruud pairs.

Unlike Saha, Ruud is deadly. Ruud has a wide variety of choices but if he chooses to sign for Liverpool, I wuld utterly lose respect for him. It would be the worse thing since Tevez sign for Man Shitty. Even worse than that.

I don't really mind if he joins Liverpool, he is 33, he hasn't got much football left in him anyway, he wouldn't be a great hit at the scousers so it's not that bad.

He was loyal to us and done all he could, but like someone else said, he stormed out of Old Trafford at the end of the 05/06 season.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy is being lined up for a New Year move to Liverpool.

The Dutch striker is surplus to requirements at Real Madrid as he recovers from the latest of a series of injuries that have limited him to four appearances this season.

Anfield boss Rafa Benitez is looking at the possibility of taking the former Manchester United striker on loan until the end of the season as he aims to add firepower to his team.

Van Nistelrooy, 33, is also attracting interest from Tottenham and Manchester City as he nears fitness following a thigh problem.

But he would prefer a move to Anfield because he believes Liverpool will still be fighting for the Premier League title at the end of the season – and that would help him secure a place in Holland’s World Cup squad.

It’s a move that would send shock waves all the way to Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson believed he landed a huge psychological blow on Benitez when he persuaded former Liverpool striker Michael Owen to join United in the summer. Recruiting Van Nistelrooy would give the Merseysiders a big New Year lift as they look to get back into the title race.

Van Nistelrooy scored 95 goals in 150 appearances for United before moving to Spain three years ago in a £18million deal after falling out with Ferguson.

Real signed Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema last summer, while Van Nistelrooy is also behind Bernabeu golden boy Raul in the pecking order.

Benitez will be given a limited budget for signings in January – and a loan move for Van Nistelrooy is a big attraction.

Van Nistelrooy’s goal-scoring pedigree is impressive. In three seasons he has been the Champions League top marksman. He is currently the Champions League second highest scorer  – only Raul has more.

As well as having World Cup aspirations Van Nistelrooy also needs to secure a long-term contract. His current agreement with Real expires next summer.

The other big attraction for Benitez is that Van Nistelrooy can operate as a solo striker in the way he currently deploys Fernando Torres.
