This isn't a whinge about our failed European campaign or a demand that we go out and spend a 100 mil on new signings, its an actual question, given that my background is Rugby League and Cricket I dont really have a depth of knowledge when it comes to Football tactics. So given the fact that the Spanish possession seems to trump our style of play (to say the least), how do we go about conquering this last hurdle?

reading these types of post actually p*ss me off, whose to say well even play Barca in next three years ? its not a given. The fact were not in any European competition is enough to show this topics irrelevancy, lets move on and concentrate on the league since its the only thing were in smh.

hey mate, its about the european cup(s) this club so much longs for... its whatd fulfill the vison of Sir Matt Busby and Sir Alex Ferguson... Manchester United has produced great teams to dominate english football, but in order for manchester united to be on top of that footballing tree and as one of the footballing greats of europe we needs to produce a european dominant team like the real madrid team that won 5 in a row, that liverpool bil shankly team(even though i hate to say it), the great ajax and munich teams. This is what SAF desires, and has always talked about hving a team that wouldve dominated european football for years to come i.e. the team that never was the Busby Babes. :-(

I had a very vivd dream last night that we were 2-0 down to Barcelona and we came back to beat them 4-2. I know Hernandez and Rooney scored but i dont know who else. Our pace was just too fast for them!

think that was against westham last year 2-0 down, hernandez score and rooney got a hat trick(explanation for your two missing players)...and we were wearing white against West ham lol

I think the problem lies with the coaching in this country. If our esteemed leaders had their way we would still be running round with knee length baggy shorts and kicking heavy laced up casey balls. We are so resistent to change it is laughable. We must be the only country that still believes in the big centre forward and the lumbering centre-half. Hoof the ball up the pitch and hope for the best. Dribbling? That's for namby-pamby Johnny Foreigner. There'll be none of that from our boys, thank you. Exactly! There is this culture of anti-intellectualism where football is concerned. Long high balls and 'kick about' football. When floored by superior skills the excuse is it must be in the water they drink....Have you watched lower league football?? Christ the sound the ball makes is deafening. Its just being hoofed left right and center, and people wonder WHY England hasn’t won anything since the 60’s…There is nothing that makes the English happier than seeing someone try something different, more skillful, and fail at it.. That needs to change..

In addition I think there is a problem at grass roots. Football is not readily available at school, and should play a larger role in the curriculum. I mean, at school I was forced to play basketball, hockey, softball, BADMINTON FFS! I think it's an important to educate kids on these other sports, give them an understanding of the rules, and see if they like it or not. If the kids like tennis then let them pursue it elsewhere, but a lot of kid's who just want to play football are left frustrated. Our school didn't even have a proper football team. We just played an occasional friendly.

We could beat Barca, here's how. First off, buy Heskey and put him up front with Rooney and Hernandez, the, order a few shotguns, then, hire chuck Norris and put him in Centre Midfield. If none of this works, then use the shotguns, but make sure your shots are on target, so we'll get goals. The four step way to beat Barcelona, though you might wanna consider somehow taking over the world.

That would never work in a million years, you have two players who love to have the ball and orchestrate play, Xavi and Scholes would want the ball more and this would affect the balance of the team.
