Scholes...Park....and Giggs all playing, but it was the omission of Valencia that really shocked me.

This might be controversial, but for the good of the club, should Scholes and Giggs retire? I know they can't, skill for skill, heart and dedication, be replaced, but there surely has to be an alternative out there.

Is it really lack of funds that has stopped us buying? I know full well about this fabled £120 (been told enough) million we have to spend, but what is the real reason that there have been no midfield replacements?

As you might have guessed... I still wear green and gold. I have seen all the facts and figures...heard all the arguments, but our refusal to spend (for me) means only one thing.

Re: fergies tactics cost us the title

Fergies tactics has won us many titles and cups. I don't agree losing 6-1 to City was a tactical failure. If we had accepted defeat then we would never have come back from the Chelsea game. But I do agree Fergi's failure in rebuilding the midfield and place too much faith on Anderson, Hargreaves and the Twins in not identifying backup in advance, and using Jones/Smalling under panic. On this account even Rio and Evan's limitation was ignored.

Re: fergies tactics cost us the title

tommythecat:

WELL SAID MATE. +2

With the players they had on paper, City should have won the league with a 10ptn margin. And maybe the Spurs should be second ... and I forgot the Blues.

Finishing equal with city is a a great achievement bearing in mind the gap we had in our team.

Saying this, I fully agree some players needs to be sold and others bought.

Re: fergies tactics cost us the title

As a true Red since 1993, I am quite gutted that we are finishing the season with no silverware in our cabinet. Our legendary coach made some mistakes, as can be expected of all mortal beings, but we should also remember the times when we enjoyed some fantastic victories. I am particularly disappointed by our exit from Europe, the defeat to Crystal Palace in the Carling Cup as well as the defeats to City and Blackburn at home and to Newcastle and Wigan away and the stalemates against Newcastle and Everton at home.. I was quite disappointed when Sir Alex proclaimed that there was no quality in the market to plug the huge whole left by Scholesy when he hung up his boots. I am not a fan of marquee signings like Sneider but surely there are some gifted inexpensive playmakers in La Liga and the technically superior Bundesliga and the Eredivise? Whilst our injury crisis is probably attributable to young Jones being played out of the positions in which he would flourish, our bench has been below average to say the least. I am hoping that in addition to the sale/loaning of players such as Park, Berba, Ando et al, we make 5 new signings for a left-back, centre-back, defensive midfielder, play maker and centre forward for us to compete with the best in England and Europe. There is more talent on the market than City, Chelsea, Real, Barca and other spendthrifts can buy. The gaffer simply has to buy wisel and cast his radar in south and Central America too. Besides, we have some fairly decent talent in our reserves.

Re: fergies tactics cost us the title

The-Best-7.x:

No they didn't. As for beating City twice, did you not wince when their ten men outplayed us in the second half. When it really counted, Monday, WE HAD NOT ONE SHOT ON TARGET. If you were not humiliated by this, try Europe this season. No I'm not the DEAD SEA. This has been a DEAD SEASON.

I am old enough to recall the days prior to SAF when we were not saddled with 490M in debt. So next time you are at Old Trafford, buy yourself a green and gold scarf and remove your rose-tinted spectacles. We could and should have won the league this year. Ferguson rested Scholes at Wigan. EVERYONE WHO FOLLOWS MAN UTD KNOWS THAT ERROR OF JUDGEMENT COST US A POINT. He rested a player who came out of returement because he stubbornly refused to buy a CM in the close season.

If he needs a rest after 19 games in his season, and we don't have anyone to replace him, please tell me who is to blame but SAF.

I suggest he sells Anderson and Ji Sung, but he won't because there is no guarantee that he will sign anyone in CM this year. He never does. He disagrees with all our views to strengthen that area and sits on his hands watching Toure waltz right through our journeymen. He plays Wellbeck to allow Rooney to play as a number 10. Wellbeck is not good enough, nor is Hernandez nor Berbatov. A good number 9 should score 20+ per season, especially with support from Nani, Young, Valencia and Rooney. The latter is not scoring and prefers to drop deep. Giggs and Scholes will be peripheral next season. City don't need to strengthen their midfield, so there is no excuse not to buy in this area. City do need a forward, so we will not be able to bid at the top table. So we need to get used to winning nothing for a few seasons, just like Arsenal, until SAF retires. He has been fantastic, but his hands are tied by current owners and 490M pounds of debt. He will have 25M in his June kitty. So expect a couple of unproven kids at best., So pay peanuts get peanuts. When SAF retires, a new manager will demand a war chest. So cherish the memories until then, I'm afraid. Why not remove your name from the season ticket waiting list. If 10,000 others do likewise, the Glazers might realise that winning NOTHING this season and the next two seasons may be acceptable at the Etihad, but not Old Trafford.

Why don´t you change your user name to The Dead Sea then your comments will be totally accepable and understandable. We beat City twice this season in case you forgot? When has SAF or Gill ever said the Glazers wouldn´t invest in the market to improve the club? Nothing like an off season to show the true colours of some people and the faith they have in SAF and Manchester United.

Re: fergies tactics cost us the title

There is only 1 omission in your excellent counters to the original post. We have a large squad of players to cover injury. As we have seen when our squad players get an outing (Crystal Palace) they are not as good as SAF thinks they are. We were humiliated in Europe. We have been in decline since 2008. Being outclassed in Barcelona and Wembley is not progress and this season has been more reminiescent of life before SAF arrived. We have gone full circle.

Re: fergies tactics cost us the title

I somewhat agree, some of his choices were just plain wrong and in the man city game it felt like he was playing for a draw. Why do we keep holding on to these relics like Evra, Carrick and Ferdinand, we can do so much better. What do you think of my friends line-up for this week, Rafael, Smalling, Ferdinand/Evans, Evra (lazy ass), Mid field - Valencia, Scholes, Nani, Rooney (just infront of them), and Hernandez (for the opening payer has to be there ;-) and Welbeck infront.
