Jordi Alba plays as much at left back as he does at left wing, he can fit into either position well, like Michel Bastos. Just thought I'd point that out to you.

Re: My ideal summer for United vs The likely summer for United.

If we are instead in Lewandowski it's already been documented that him and Kagawa aren't very friendly with each other, I believe Kagawa stated he meaning Lewandowski is a one dimensional player and sometimes misses the open person and instead takes a bad shot. Totally agree about Fellaini, United have looked weak from corners this year and he would help to change that. He is also a proven midfielder, which for me is the biggest thing, other midfielders have been talked about such as Martinez but what reason is there to believe he will be able to do it in the premiership where its alot more physical than la liga.

I would like to see carrick/scholes partnered with fellaini and kagawa playing the free role behind rooney.

Re: My ideal summer for United vs The likely summer for United.

KeaneonHaaland:

Brittain 10:

KeaneonHaaland:

Jordi Alba has played most of his games for Valencia at left back not left wing. Anyway he is apparently Barcelona bound as a replacement for Abidal who's suffered with bad health recently.

No mate take my word for it for the past two seasons Jordi Alba has been on the left wing more or less the entire time as the genuine lb Jeremy Mathieu plays there. They do overlap now and again but always seem to be *** when it's left to Alba to defend. Let Barca have him, he's no more a lb than Bale who they were supposedly going to put there.

Sorry but that's not right. I'm really into La Liga and have even been over to see Valencia at La Mestalla this season (v Real Betis) and I know for a fact that he has played at left back almost all season. Valencia even have him listed on their own official website as a left back and they should know! For what its worth though I agree with you that he's better going forward than he is at defending but he's way better than Bale at LB.

Well whenever I see them play he's positioned as the winger, him and Mathieu overlap a lot but from what I've seen (two years of him now) he is a winger. He doesn't look at all capable of defending whatsoever, in fact he makes Evra looks good. I've yet to go to the Mestalla but even on the box it's clear enough he can't defend! Whatever the case it doesn't matter, there are much better options out there for us anyway, check the Jetro Willems thread I've made today.

Re: My ideal summer for United vs The likely summer for United.

Brittain 10:

KeaneonHaaland:

Jordi Alba has played most of his games for Valencia at left back not left wing.
Anyways Jordi Alba is a winger, poor defensively no point going there, Baines on the other hand would be a great buy and allow Fryers/Blackett to develop.

Kagawa isn't really a cm, he would be wasted there imo but still a great buy. I agree a more defensive sided midfielder is needed, not sure about Tiote and Felliani though pretty sure we he turned us down in the past.

Hazard isn't left footed, so he wouldn't fit the bill of a left footed winger. David Villa also turned us down so don't see that happening.

Imo we could do with a RB(Clyne),LB(Baines),CM(Martinez/Strootman),AM(Kagawa).

Re: My ideal summer for United vs The likely summer for United.

The Mag1cian:

Ideal:

A left back: Leighton Baines or Jordi Alba for me. I haven't seen the latter very often, but he's been quality when I have seen him, and Baines is proven in the Premiership - he's also a free kick specialist, and away from Rooney we don't really have one in the ranks right now.

A couple of central midfielders - one creative, one defensive. For me I'd love to have Kagawa at OT, he just has all the attributes to become absolutely world class. I think we need a player like Fellaini. I know he's been mentioned in the past, and others believe Tiote would be a good fit, but it's Fellaini for me. I'm actually going on a personal scouting mission for Fellaini - England vs Belgium before the Euros :)

A striker. Many have spoken about the need for a left footed left winger, but away from Hazard I really don't think there's anyone in that position that would fit the bill. Therefore, I'd love to see David Villa join. Before you shoot me down, hear me out - he's coming back from injury, he isn't guaranteed a spot in the Barcelona team any more, and he'd be cheaper than he was when Fergie last had a look at him, plus he'd kill two birds with one stone - as he could play on the left wing when Wazza and Chicharito were up front, and then switch with Chicha if we needed Young, Giggs or Nani on the wing.

Likely:

I'm pretty sure we will sign a left back - although I can see it being someone cheaper than Baines and Alba (could be around £15-£20 million for either), perhaps someone like Evra when he signed - relatively little known name outside of his team's country.

Nathaniel Clyne. I don't know why, but I have a feeling he'll join. Perhaps to allow for Smalling and Jones to move into centre back and central midfield?

If Clyne signs, perhaps Jones will move into defensive midfield, leaving Fellaini and Tiote at Everton and Newcastle?

Lewandowski up front - it sounds like we have a very real interest in him, and if Kagawa signs I can see him joining his former team mate...

Thoughts?

You're telling the truth when you say you've seen little of Alba, he's a left winger, I appreciate you have the decency of admitting seeing little of him, therefore you can be forgiven for not knowing about him. As for Baines he'd be useful until Tyler Blackett emerges and is ready, probably in about 3-4 years time. Fellaini isn't united quality for me, he concedes far too many fouls and his ball control is atrocious. Javi Martinez, Yann M'Vila and Kevin Strootman would be better options for me. As for Villa he's 31 this year. He's also coming back from long term injury and wouldn't be sold on the cheap. Plus I don't think we need more strikers yet. Nevertheless some good ideas, you've certainly got the right positions covered.

Re: My ideal summer for United vs The likely summer for United.

Well first nice post - Of those you talk about here i'd like jordi alba & hazard - fellaini... why fellaini, well he would make us stronger on corner kicks where we are wery weak now,we never score on corner kicks.
