Does anyone write to complain to the television company of them using it? (Skysports and Setanta).

Yes, its probably worse seeing it in a United Forum, but screaming and getting angry at little kids or those with not as good a grasp of English as some it is fruitless. Those pundits are the ones to be corrected... and through the media, the lesson would be spread.

AlexUnited:

Exactly. I hate it when people call United, Man Utd.

I've noticed that a lot of bandwagon fans, like kids use the term often. It just draws to the conclusion that they have only just supported us for the success. Then again, it may just be used for short - out of ignorance like said.

Oh btw, I use the term Man Utd which Alex "one post wonder" United changed the thread title and says he hates the term. Call it ignorance on my part and I'm willing to change as I've seen someone else rant about the term.

The rant I saw used the chant as covered in the OP but changes the term to Utd instead of U, I only use Utd as a shorthand for United (attempts however poor at defending my innocence).

The term Utd isn't featured in the chant, it wouldn't sound correct as you can't phonetically read Utd and if you know it means "united", then why read between apparent lines and take it as an offence even though you're reading it as "united"

So I want to clarify it, if its specified that "utd" is frowned up and someone can show me why I'd use "Man United" from now one rather than attempt to shorten United to utd. So please educate us.

Re: Why we don't call our club Man Utd *grimace*

here in Austria, Germany and Switzerland EVERYBODY says ManU, on TV, in newspapers, on radio, everywhere.

most of them don´t know the reason.

Re: Why we don't call our club Man Utd *grimace*

I'm only 15 years old, but I've been a United since I was 4.

I'm not supporter for only the winnings.

Man U is not a term United fans refer to themselves as. The term is only used by other supporters as a complete and utter insult to our club. The "u" is meant to be "you" by the rival fans.

An early example of its usage is this chant by West Brom fans: "Duncan Edwards is manure, rotting in his grave, man you are manure- rotting in your grave". The origin of "Man u" is a song to insult the dead Duncan Edwards.

Liverpool and Leeds fans copied this with their own man you /u versions to insult all of the lads who died at munich.

"Man U Man U went on a plane Man U Man U never came back again"

and..

"Man U Never Intended Coming Home" (if you combine the first letter of each word you get the word "munich").

I hope this makes it clearer that saying man u is an insult, particularly to the older supporters and to see United fans using it now is shameful. I hope a few might read this, understand and spread the word.

So... Please REFRAIN from using this term ever again!!!!!!!!

U is short for United, much as Sheff U to name but one club frequently use. Personally having seen Giggs, Beckham, Saha & Lee Sharpe all use the term Man U I can’t see the harm.

Don’t forget United fans have some pretty awful chants about Liverpool fans and the amount of foul and abusive chants come from United just as much as any other team. Have cringed at times when people sat right next to my son (now 9) who has been a regular at OT for a few years now, F’ing and spewing *** fould language out of their mouths. Maybe for a change a thread on foul language used in the ground would be far more apt. But as so many on here never get to the ground, maybe a silly vendetta against a fan saying Man U will be turned into an insult by people who mustn’t get out much, will reamin a serious issue lol

Oh and by the way it’s Manchester United Never Intended Coming Home, NOT MAN U
