Re: Hargreaves storms away from Old Trafford

If he left and wasn't ill then I cannot blame him in the slightest.  The lad has worked hard for the past 21 months to get his fitness back and in the last six games, in Fergie's press conferences, SAF said nearly every time that Hargo would either get a start or be on the bench.  SAF played him for a mere 30 seconds against Sunderland (if that) and then excluded him altogether for the final game when he had said he would definitely play.  Hargo must feel very frustrated but I do think this was more about Fergie making sure that Hargo wasn't going to be in Capello's World Cup team (especially as on the morning of the Stoke game Capello had said Hargreaves was his wild card).  Deep down, I think Hargo knows it would be unfair to play for England when other players have been trying to prove themselves all season, and he hadn't played in a United shirt for so long, but he shouldn't not play for the club when he's fit to play.  With regards to the World Cup, no doubt he is deeply disappointed not to be going, but at 29, he still has many years in him to play and so there is always 2014.  I have no doubt he'll be in for that.  Hopefully, we will finally see Hargo next season.  After this season's disappointing midfield performances, I for one, will be glad to see him back.

I was actually being very geniune. I know you felt very strongly about the fact that Berba was the right man for United and was just wondering if you still feel that way.

Already replied to 'someone' in another Berba thread.

I thought he looked good until his knee injury back in October (Blackburn game?). That also happened to coincide with Rooney's injection of form who in turn had been given a far more attacking role this year. Lovely. After Berba returned he didn't quite looked the same and seemed to have lost a bit of confidence. By then Rooney was imperious, Valencia had found his feet and 4-5-1 was reallyclicking into gear.

Consequently no sane manager would drop an in-form-Rooney in order to accomodate Berba in a 4-5-1 without sacrificing a valuable holding / ball-playing midlfielder. Plus the 'knee injury'. So he was sidelined. There were rumours about a knee operation which was to be eventually postoponed. Not sure if he'd have it now or not.

In my view he's not terribly strong mentally and his confidence took a blow post his injury and the 4-5-1 preference. Sadly he couldn't string it together against Rovers and Chelsea when Rooney was out. Would have galvanised his status. Sure as hell he looked like trying.

I think he's an immensely talented player who often lacks the 'determination and confidence'. Doub't he'll be sold. Minimum loss right now would be 10m and Utd can rather use that money on someting more useful such as a creative playmaker/holder. I would imagine he'd stay another 2-3 seaons and leave on a free or something while in the process trying to rebuild his confidence. The talent has always been there.

    Season score. 6.5/10

    I'd be upset too.

I couldn't believe SAF threw him out for 10 seconds on the attempt of wasting time. I mean it was insulting

Beruit 1987, do you ever look to see if there is a thread on the same subject to which you are going to post? Becasue if you did, you would have found this, which is still on the first page, right below this thread

    http://community.manutd.com/forums/t/108787.aspx

You done the same yesterday with the Evra news, and on other days with different stories. It doesn't hurt to look on the first few pages to see if a thread already exsits on the subject, it will reduce the clutter on these forums consideraby.

Have we stopped bringing  long term injury players via the reserves to regain their  touch? Is hargo something  else and has never lost or diminished the qualities he had prior to his injury?I have been waiting for his return which was supposed to be last november, and almost any other month since.Personal opinion we will never see him play a full first team game again for United but I could be wrong.

Who knows, if he was upset, then he was upset.   If he was sick, then he was sick.

Hargreaves threw wobbler over final day Man Utd snub

Owen Hargreaves lost his rag for Manchester United's final game of the season, it has been revealed. The Sun says Hargreaves, 29, hoped to get at least 30 minutes against Stoke to show Fabio Capello he could do a job at the finals. But there was no place for him in Alex Ferguson's 18-man squad and he left 50 minutes before kick-off. United claimed Hargreaves' exit was due to illness. But an onlooker said: "At about 3.10pm a member of the security team got into a grey Audi and headed for Gate 4B of the Stretford End. "The way the car moved off, I thought it was one of the Glazers trying to get away. But then Hargreaves appeared and he did not look happy. He didn't hang about long." He probably did leave in a bit of a huff but after about 2 and half years out of the game, you are finally back and feel you can play, not to mention the fact that everyone knew deep down that the game would more than likely mean nothing. I would imagine anyone would be a bit gutted, I know I would be! I don't think anyone can blame him for leaving the ground after thatm if that was the case.

I feel sorry for the lad and I just really truly hope he can get himself in a good mindset and state of fitness over the summer and come back and actually play some football. We all know what a great midfielder he is and he owes to himself and United for helping him through this to recapture the form he showed in the double season.

No way I can argue that Yes

Great analyses, thanks. I know you're very much in favor of Berba staying on, so it's great to see you give such a fair analyses of his performance.
