Re: Sir Alex's greatest achievement as United manager? (ManUtd.com thread)

SAF achievements are endless. What I admire the most is his endless enthusiasm for the game, I mean he's been in the job for over 24 years and still has the same drive for success he had when he started. Not to mention the endless trophies, his ability to continually develop the team to be successful, and to instil a spirit and never say die attitude that makes us unique in the PL and what led to the treble season and the amazing finale against Bayern in 99. The day he leaves will be a very sad day indeed. SAF your a legend, an icon and a hero! Long may you reign old chap!!!

I think by far and away the greatest achievment of Sir Alex's United career was the was he transformed the club from the bottom up, more specifically sorting out the mess of a youth system that Atkinson left behind.

Once Ferguson started sorting the club out as a whole rather than just the first team as Ron Atkinson, then that laid down the foundations for all the success we've enjoyed since then.  Who knows, the Fergie Fledglings might well have ended up at City had it not been for Ferguson.   That is far greater than any individual trophy or season in my opinion.

Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity

I think his greater achievement is that he built three great teams over the years (cantona team, treble team, 2nd champions league team).

That and the fact that through the periods that a team will naturaly "slow down" to be great again (3-4 years span), the team never finished below 2nd or 3rd place in the premier league, remaining highly competitive.

His greatest achievement?its prety obvious for me to be honest. He showed to the whole world how a club should be structured, where it should invest for long term success and prosperity. His methods are now used from the best clubs in Europe, like BarcelonaThe fans of MAN UTD should thank SAF not just for the success that he brought to this club but mostly because he built a club that will be succesfull for the next 20 years, with or without THE BOSS.

Hail SAF the greatest manager in the history of football

Sir Alex has won everythng in the game like many other great personalities in the english league and in the european game but there are 2 things which demark him from others.  I think he is the only manager to be leading the team to glory for 3 decades.  Undoubtedly United has dominated 1990 - 2000 and 2000 to 2010, but he has a team capable of doing it again for the next ten years.  Secondly he has contracdicted the sayings that kids cannot win the league.  Personnally I think 1996 was the best premiere league campaign for united.  They sold 3 calibre players in the first 11 like kanchelskis, Ince and Hughes, and didnt buy any high profile players that time.  Instead the coach introduced players like Beckham, Butt, Scholes and Phil Neville.  Moreover, Cantona was not playing as was suspended for 18 months and i guess that he played only the last 2 months during that campaign and amazingly United won the premiere leaugue and the FA cup.  I dont think theres any other managers in the world who can manage youngsters as well as Sir ALex.  He has not only a great vision, but he can manage all sorts of players and maintain the tradition of Man United at the same time.  This is why I believe that Man United have the greastest fan base in the world.  For me Sir Alex Ferguson is the symbol of Man United and in some years when the great man retires I cant imagine United without him as i believe he is irreplaceable.

greatest achievement : to get a hat trick of premier league titles (twice) and also to win it two times in a row (twice) on other seasons, without spending money the way man city at current and madrid throughout have done !

Re: Sir Alex's greatest achievement as United manager? (ManUtd.com thread)

There are several reasons why Sir Alex is so unique and as to why he has managed so much success. Things like the way he always wants football to be played the right way, the ethics, his famed man management and so on. But they all stem from the one most significant asset Sir Alex has, an unwavering will to win. No matter the odds, no matter the opponents, no matter the injuries, no matter the weather or the circumstances, Sir Alex always wants to win. His team is never sent out to play out a game, his team is always sent out with one simple and very clear message, "WIN". The fans demand success, yet Sir Alex has always demanded even more. He makes sure that every single player who walks though that door at Old Trafford understands what they are playing for, the history, the tradition, the fans, the glory. It is that winning mentality, that pride in wearing and representing that shirt. That is what sets him apart from the rest, and that is why the Champions League final in 1999 was his greatest achievement. But it wasn't only because they won the treble, but it was because that game encompassed what Sir Alex is all about. You play from the first to last second, you never give up, you always want to win no matter what. Those few minutes all those years ago represented those very qualities in the most dramatic and memorable way. Long may he continue, and as long as he does, Manchester United are sure to achieve success, he demands it, and he achieves.

Obviosly all the trophies and development of young players and the Man utd way of playing attractive football which has kept us true fans enthralled for years goes without saying but we must remember his handling of the gutter press. It never ceases to amaze me how often he is misquoted by media hacks but retains his dignity. I also admire the way he never lets a player succed in becoming bigger than the club. Long may his heath remain so he can guide the club for years to come.

It would be his ability to create top class side after and play with the same football philosiphy all the way through his career. Never letting a player become bigger than the club and to overcome some of the toughest times as manager cause we kno it all hasnt been clean sailing through the years. to bring through a near world class england side single handily with the likes of scholes and beckham the ronaldos robsons keanes and top class bargin signing like solskear. he can b forgiven for veron and djemba djemba cant be rite all the time. i salute sir alex and wish him a further 24 years and thank him for bringing football to a new level Smile

Sir Alex Ferguson greatest achievements for me have been everything. From the 1999 Treble winning season, to the 2008 Champs League and Premiership Double, to catching up to Liverpool's League record and hopefully beating it soon, 3 Premier League Titles in a Row x 2, to the 1991 Cup Winners Cup, All the trophies he has won for us and to all the great players he bought (Cantona, Ronaldo, Rooney, Van Nistelrooy, Solskjaer etc) and brought through the youth (Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Fletcher, Nevilles, Butt, etc) which he built up. Sir Alex, you are a True Role model to all United fans from all over the world, your Scottish passion prevails, please keep up the amazing work and carry on. I use to say, no one is bigger than United, but Sir Alex Ferguson for me is United. From Johannesburg, South Africa.

What a legend , after 26 years of waiting he won the league and that was the turning point for the club. There are no words that would do Sir Alex's legacy and achievements any justice. For me Winning the first EPL title is his biggest achievement because it happend after 26 years of waiting.
