Re: Phil Jones And Duncan Edwards

I wouldn't go so far to describe Phil Jones and Duncan Edwards, for I have never watched the great man play. However, the general consensus (then and now) is that Duncan Edwards was the greatest player of his time, and that is saying something. Let's not compare the young lad to the great man, its neither justified nor respectful.

Having said that though, I think Phil is an outstanding, superb talent that we have done well to acquire. I have been impressed with him with every game he has played and his demeanor, attitude and talent are all first-class. I literally see shades of Vida and Rio in him, in that he both puts his body in line AND plays the ball out of defence calmly. For his age, he sure has good passing skills, which can only improve with experience. He also has that leadership look about him, which would put him squarely in contention for the captain's armband later on.

I have watched both Smalling and Jones during their u-21 championship and I must say, both complimented each other very very well. I wouldn't be surprised if they start our FA cup and Carling cup matches and even some of our Premier league or Champions League ones too. In addition, Jonny has gotten back much of his confidence and I was impressed with the way he played the ball out of defence all the way into Citeh's half in the 2nd half of comm shield. It only bodes well for our future that these lads will be there to step up their game.

Duncan Edwards was more of a Phil Jones + Tom Cleverley + Ryan Giggs + Ashley Young + Wayne Rooney + Nemanja Vidic

That's really what my Father said to me when I saw him today and we had a good chat about football Big Smile

Re: Phil Jones And Duncan Edwards

I am lucky enough to have seen Duncan Edwards play and you cannot make comparisons with any other players. Edwards was just unbelievable, he had the ability to take a game by the scruff of the neck and change it. Matt Busby used to say to the players if we are in trouble just give the ball to Duncan. He was a great player at the age of sixteen. Also he played with a very heavy ball and boots that weighed a ton and against defenders who kicked the s*** out of you. He was certainly the greatest player i ever saw. So my opinion is no Jones is not like Duncan Edwards. I do believe though that Jones has the ability to be a great player and become a Manchester United legend.

Neville and few of our legends and current players did say he has the attribute to be a fantastic captain for both Manchester United and England.

    Redthroughandthrough:
Just NO. Bobby Charlton has said he is the only player he ever felt inferior too. Bobby Moore admitted if he had lived, he would have been England captain. That should say it all.
If it makes you feel better, the blackburn squad called him future england captain

Calm down there good man. He's only saying he reminds him of Duncan NOT that he is as good as him. Stop going crazy at everyone and try to have a peaceful conversation.

    Phil Jones And Duncan Edwards

I havent seen much footage of Big Dunc, but from what i have seen, and can see, Phil Jones realy reminds me of him.......(not 'THE NEXT', just reminds me).....his 'balance' and technique are very similar! And from what i heard of Edwards.......he had amaizing natural ability. im not jumping the gun here (and i know they play different positions, well, jones can play CM/DMC too) but i think weve got an amaizing prospect for life at the best club in the world. I look forward to our United future x
