I know people may be a bit biased here... but can you settle an argument for me! im sayin that through out their careers schols has been the better midfeilder. his passing, movement, vision, goals and just his pure natural quality and talent makes him the better player. what do you think? thanks Azz.

Mehh It's like apples and oranges you know. They are different type of players, but while you can become a Gerrard by working hard you have to be born a Scholes.

Gerrard is a more of Keane type of player while Scholes is more like Sir Bobby I guess. Gerrard as a team player is probably more important to the team as the same is Rooney for United. Scholes is undoubtedly the better overall player. Gerrard is the better dribbler and crosser and of course the better tackler. Scholes makes United tick in midfield and have to say his low key profile hides the fact what an important player he is. He would be of course much better with a 3 man midfield as would any player instead of a 2 man one. I still think that with a defensive midfield player, a central midfield player a pushed forward Scholes would be better than where he is playing now. His greatest assets have been his passing, his ability to shoot from distance and his late arrival in the box to score goals. By putting him where he is now we can only use his passing ability. Gerrard also has the ability to lift the team around him when he plays for Liverpool. To me both did not perform for England and it says more about the England coaches than the players when the 2 best midfield players of the generation failed for England.

Scholes was the best of his generation..........Just a pity he is not 10 years younger.......

Gerrard is a great player who works hard for his team scores great goals has great passing is loyal etc even though he hasnt won as much as Scholes has but i admire him for sticking with Liverpool his club when he could have joined another team that wins summit on a consistent basis .As for Scholes hes just the perfect footballer he cant tackle but i think he was unfairly punished by referees most of the time but no other footballer could get anywhere near Scholes he had that gift always seeing things before anyone else that very rarely happens these days in a player he was the best midfielder of his generation simple as that.

Scholes can control a whole game and gerrard can influence a whole team. They are both versatile , but i think scholes is more of a natural midfielder whereas gerrard is better playing behind the striker.Tough to choose. I think England were at their best when those two were playing in the middle or whenever they played together(scholes on the left flank).

Im not gonna compare but lemme put it this way...i wouldve loved to have seen a midfield which included keane, gerrard and scholes playing for the same club/team at their peak.

Gerrard has probably cost the English teams in recent years too.

Several England managers always seemed to think Gerrard and Lampard were the best combination in midfield and Scholes always got shunted out wide. Total waste of an international career.

So the semi-final screamer against Barca in 2008 wasn't decisive? Scholes is twice the player Gerrard is and was.

I knew somebody will come out with this primitive example and that's why I wrote "he had his good moments"...one should be extremely biased or just crazy not to admit that OVERALL gerrard was better in Europe than scholes

Gerrard will always be a second best to Scholes. Gerrard is an amazing player but he's not in the same league as Scholes. It will always be hard to beat perfection.

If we're talking tackling then Gerrard wins, only just though, I've seen Gerrard do some really dirty tackles, at least it aint Scholes fault, he just can't tackle lol. Do I really need to say that Scholes destroys Gerrard in every other area?
