Big difference though. Scholes didn't cost us anything, so changing his position wasn't a gamble. Gotze will cost us near enough £40m. Do you really want us to spend £40m on Gotze, and then change his position, just because he could work out in CM? Now that is a big gambe. And what if he didn't work out in CM? It's basically wasted money, money that could've been spent on an actual CM. And if we went to sell him a few seasons later, after he hasn't worked out, his value would've dropped considerably.

Mario Gotze is a very talented young player but we are talking about replacing an ABSOLUTE GENIUS.

Paul Scholes, in terms of ability and presence, has got to be the best midfielder I have seen playing at United. Just look at the impact he has had since coming back. He is one of those players that comes around every so often and has that special something. He cannot be replaced. There isn't a central midfielder as good as him around (except maybe Xavi and at a stretch Iniesta). I hope he stays on next year purely because it will only be positive news for us. Giggs is also in that bracket.

You would have all read it yourselves, quote Sir Alex "Scholes is probably the best midfielder in England for the past 20 years". This means he was greater than Keane, Vieira, Lampard and many others who would have loved to be compared to him. Same applies to the future: there will be more great midfielders and United will have more great midfielders but all will be different to Scholes and if they achieve greatness it will be in a different way.

It's hard to tell but IMO Gotze would not be a Scholes replacement. When you say we have been interested in Gotze, Nasri, Ozil, Silva, Sneijder etc that may be right but IMO none of these players are like Scholes because he is unique. They are probably the next best thing to replace his creativity but none of them spread passes like Scholes. Silva, Nasri, Ozil, Hazard, Gotze etc all of these players are not Central Midfielders. The don't really have one position because they roam all over in attacking areas so they can have as much effect as possible. Gotze plays on the left wing then drifts in to create. By all means he may be able to play central midfield but he is not the solution in my opinion.

I dont think anyone can take scholes role, he is a very unique player and does things other players wouldnt even think about. Scholes has every attribute a good cm needs and he can attack and at times defend(his tackling really isnt that bad, its just when he does get them wrong they are BAD) but you are entitled to your opinion, i agree gotze would be a good player for us to have but not as a replacement for scholes, when he leaves we should move on rather than try to find someone like him because it never works out.

This is all we need in the summer. personally a dm such as martinez as well and all but 60million will get us this and we will see leaps and bounds in europe and even in the league.

I would finally like to point out that manchester united are interested in players such gotze nasri ozil silva sneijder for a reason. CORRECT? we dont play cam right? we wouldnt replace rooney right? which means sir alex has a plan for these types of players.....otherwise we wouldnt be interested in them correct?

well then where would we want to play such passing creating possesive players ? lets see somewhere where they wont replace rooney or the wingers......somewhere through the middle. somewhere where they arent relied on for a trait they dont possess..........tackling winning the ball. hm.............scholes role

Scholes has never been relied on for his tackling and covering of the defence unlike carrick or ando......but for obvious passing, creating, possession and driving into the box and goals from midfield. hm....suddenly the alleged interest of united in cams and playmakers makes sense.....

I believe because of these points that someone like gotze can fill his role. its my personal opinion and i absolutely realise that almost all will disagree, and thats fine but before you say such things....ATLEAST comprehend my points given and explain your reasons. none of this "gotze cant play cm because he is not a cm and doesnt track back".
