dan87:He is a brilliant attacking player who helps keep the other team pinned back. Evra does leaves some big gaps on the left that Vidic would normally help cover, with the young players we are currently bringing through it feels like the awareness is not there yet.
This. I often see Vidic cover for Evra when he goes up front, and whenever Evra pushes up to close down some player out wide, it is often Vidic who goes there to cover for him. This is why we haven't seen Evra look so bad. Now with Vidic out, we see Evra exposed.
To be honest, I really think Evra has declined a bit himself, defensively. His marking has worsened, and any player willing to take on Evra can beat him more easily. He also doesn't close down the crosser often and instead goes for the block because he is used to having too good aerial defenders like Vidic and Ferdinand play with him. However, we don't have as good an aerial defender as Vidic now, so he shouldn't be playing like this.
I think, for Evra to fix himself, he has to stop playing like a wing back and instead play as a defensive full back.
