He is a brilliant attacking player who helps keep the other team pinned back. Evra does leaves some big gaps on the left that Vidic would normally help cover, with the young players we are currently bringing through it feels like the awareness is not there yet.

This. I often see Vidic cover for Evra when he goes up front, and whenever Evra pushes up to close down some player out wide, it is often Vidic who goes there to cover for him. This is why we haven't seen Evra look so bad. Now with Vidic out, we see Evra exposed.

To be honest, I really think Evra has declined a bit himself, defensively. His marking has worsened, and any player willing to take on Evra can beat him more easily. He also doesn't close down the crosser often and instead goes for the block because he is used to having too good aerial defenders like Vidic and Ferdinand play with him. However, we don't have as good an aerial defender as Vidic now, so he shouldn't be playing like this.

I think, for Evra to fix himself, he has to stop playing like a wing back and instead play as a defensive full back.

Evra is becoming below average defensively, even for an attack-minded fullback. If you want to know the consequence for that, watch last year's champions league final again. We all love Pat, but he really needs to sharpen up defensively (especially in terms of positioning).
A player once tried to nutmeg Vidic
    He will always be remembered

What I actually think is that the Gaffer should turn Evra into a LWM ( which was his preferred position ) & sign another LB. He can bomb forward the left flank which is a boost to our attackers.

I actually dont blame Evra for his sluggish performances for the last 2 seasons. I blame his former coach Didier Deschamps. Evra was LWM & he still prefers to play out wide rather than playing as a LB. He was urged by his former coach to play in the LB position , he couldn't refuse.

Could be an idea but he isn't great at crossing either.
I agree but he has good ball control , has pace & his build up play is also good. The only problem is his shooting.

Re: What exactly has evra done...

Am really not against fans expressing their views but recently it's like most of us go to games with the sole aim of taking a jibe at our players? If it's not Evans, its Young or chicharito and the list goes on, i won't be surprise one of these days if there is a thread on Rooney coz of one bad game. It's true Evra hasn't been at his best for some time now but let's give him a break coz that guy is not growing any younger and you don't expect him to recover from his attacking prowess quickly to cover up the defence like he has been doing before, my point is that we should give him the support he deserves and Gaffer should also make some rotations in that position in order to give room for competition. I also think he should be given some time off to rest coz he has been playing week in week out for a couple of seasons now, even a computer needs to be shut down for a proper restart. let's stop the criticism and roar them to title no 20.

all i keep hearing is evra has been poor for the last 2 seasons....and evra isnt good enough anymore.....but for the life of me i cant see what hes done that is so bad....so hes not the greatest defenders in the world HELLO......

ramos abate marcelo coentrao dani alves cole maicon walker they all leave things to be desired in the defensive decide of the game

Evra is amazing going forward and linking with the left winger and his stamina and desire is second to none hes a great leader and you can see that all the players love him

if you can give me some examples of why all of a sudden hes such a bad player then please share....and im not talking about 2 or 3 errors through the course of the season because every defensive player in the world make mistakes that cost the odd goal....but i really cant see this rubbish evra when i watch him play that you keep talking about and tbh i think he desrves a littlr bit more loyalty from you all.....not that many of you undertand loyalty

First of all i still like evra, his combination play with nani or young is very good, but defensivly he is very poor at the moment, for example look how Valencia defended when he played full back, and i really can't remember the last time he set up a goal with a cross or even found a player!!!

would also like to add the 3rd goal vs Chelsea Evra made the mistimed tackle which led to a free kick which led to a goal being conceded,so yeah, not to sound negative or anything.
In all three Chelsea goals Evra was involved in a lack of defending.

Re: What exactly has evra done...

What he has done is let the defensive side of his game take a nose dive. I remember a couple of years ago when he was virtually unplayable and was easily the best left back in the world. His man to man marking is very poor the past couple of years, he bombs forward, then struggles to get back to cover his position, leaving gaps in the back four. His tackling is almost non existent and when he does commit and make one the majority of the time it is mistimed and sloppy leading to silly free kicks in bad positions.

Well it seems you dont know how to spell.......but i agree alot of us dont have loyalty, but that doesnt mean because fans dont like a player anymore that they dont have loyalty, they arent blind, we arent all 110% biased, if fans dont rate a player..and a large numbe rof fans then OBVIOUSLY something is wrong it can hardly be just 1 0r 2 errors. he has been awful and inconsistent over the last two seasons leaving us wide open and he is always ball watching whilst his marker gets in ahead of him. FACT . yes hes great going forward but that is useless if he cannot defend. which he cannot. he needs competition, not sold. we need to bring in a top lb or use fryers and fabio regularly to make evra push himself and get rid of the complacency.
