Re: really bad feeling about welbeck

    thefutureisred:
I remember a player a could 15 years or so back, he was young fast powerful, started his career well, made appearances for england moved to a big club "well liverpool" his name was Emile Heskey, ive got a horrible feeling that welbeck is a bit of donkey his finishing is awful atm, and his ball control always looks a little bit sketchy likes hes going to fall over, and for his size i cant remember him scoring many headers.

He did play well at the start of the season and he works hards, and he is fantastic at holding the ball up, im hoping that his killer touch infront of goal comes with age.

I know ill probably get slated for comparing him with Heskey but you have to remember that when Heskey started his career at Lecister he was hyped over, he did score goals and impressed enough that liverpool bought him and infact played him on the wing many times, so many simularities between the two, and im not saying this is my opinion im just saying i hope Danny doesnt turn out like Emile lol Your thoughts ( be kind)

I can't really speak on the matter, know nothing about the young Heskey. But I can say I appreciate you sharing a thoughtful post, and I'm sorry that people can't take the time to read AND comprehend the ENTIRE thing before commenting. Without counting them up I'd say about 80% of the responses are illogical if they took every word of your post into consideration. Typical though....

p.s. I thought sharing the stat on their first Prem seasons was actually a nice touch. (Although, again, someone who didn't read your previous posts slated you for that too). We'll see if Danny can outdo him in these 6 games haha.

oh my god learn to read im not comparing welbeck to modern day heskey im not blind! im comparing him to 18 year old heskey
lol ive just found this stat on the net

During the 1996–97 season, his first in the Premier League, Heskey scored 10 goals in 35 appearances so danny has got 6 games to improve on heskeys total in his first full season

I dont understand why you are comparing the two players, emile heskey is WAY different to danny welbeck in many aspects. Just because they had simular stats doesnt prove anything at all, you have to take many things in to account.

He explained why he was comparing them in his opening post and it had nothing to do with stats. ???????

His composure in front of goal is poor at the moment, he needs to start unleashing shots like he did on his debut against Stoke.

Im not sure they're basically the same. Heskey was a very direct powerful runner with the ball, just bouncing off players. The ball use to and still does just get lumped up field to his head, and I can't see Welbeck ever being used like that. I think he is far more skillfull, has a better touch and has better movement than Heskey.

Im sure he knows himself that his finishing must improve and im sure it will. A real bright prospect.

well i hope im wrong but welbeck has been shocking recently, cant understand why fergie doesnt mkae him fight for his place rather than letting him keep playing

The only thinking behind that im guessing is that he brings more to the team than Hernandez.

As Hernandez offers very little apart from goals (a quite important aspect of football) I think that's why he's opting for Welbeck. If Hernandez has a bad game you won't get much more from him apart from workrate, where as if Welbecks having an off day I still think he's capable of linking the play, playing a neat little fick that could influence a game.

by that logic (which i agrre with) why not play berbatov?

It doesn't look like we'll see him in a United shirt again. Ferguson clearly doesn't fancy him anymore which is shame because i'd love to see him back involved.

This is what I don't understand, fans call for youth to be given a chance. Then when they are given a chance you simply write them off, make your minds up.

    LOL so true

Welbeck needs to improve yes, but he will do when he is given games. He is making good improvements and tbh his goal scoring record isnt brilliant, but for a young lad like he is, its pretty damn good.

He is only a couple of goals off Suarez this season and yet he cost Liverpool a good sum.. Hell once he works on his shooting more, he will score bucket loads of goals

I will fight until i die

I think his ball control is decent, his hold up play is also good and his link up play is also very good .Yes he has a lot of things to improve , especially his finishing .That is also not disappointing as you are putting it.He is a young lad and he is always improving.

Re: really bad feeling about welbeck

The way I see it, Welbeck had a bad game against QPR, but you could also argue he had a good game, the amount of times he won the ball back from off the defenders, I kept seeing him do it, for me, if he works on his finishing, then his overall game, plus 15+ goals, I'll be happy with that, his work-rate, pace, and his elegance, hes not even close to his prime yet, for me, he still is a player with a lot of potential, you can compare him to Heskey, you can compare him to any other player in the world, that didn't fulfill his potential, but you can also compare him to the ones that did get better, and became very good strikers in the future! for me though, there have been times when I feel Hernandez deserved to start, but the only criticism of Welbeck is his finishing for me, and if he improves that, he'll be a very useful striker in the future!

I like welbeck, he has gone off the boil of late in terms of finishing, but his touch, running and timing to get to positions is excellent,

Re: really bad feeling about welbeck

If we can some how find a way of formulating a potion that can combine Hernandez & Welbeck into one then we will have a striker that will have some "Technical Ability, with the ability to hold up the ball and also the ability to find a goal even if it hits his face and bounces into the net" that would be orgasmic yeeeep we would basically end up with 2 Rooneys.

Re: really bad feeling about welbeck

You may have a bad feeling about Welbeck but SAF doesn't which is why he plays him week in week out. Ok, his finishing isn't the best but his overall play is very good. Why do you think Welbeck has been starting in front of Hernandez?

As for the Heskey comparison, I really don't get why he is slated so much. Ok, as a striker he doesn't score enough but, again, his overall play is very good. Why do you think he's had 62 caps for England? Most strikers that have played with him say he is good to play with.
