People are saying that Scholes won't get it because he's only played half a season. Think of this: people are saying Valencia deserves it but he's been injured for a big chunk of the campaign and only really started to hit top form in December, only a month before Scholesy came back.
Another main candidate is Rooney, who has been unplayable at times, yet was completely missing at others; Scholes has been consistent in each of his games since his comeback and I can't really recall a game in which he was out of his depth other than maybe the City game in which he came back (he wasn't even that bad, just some underhit long-balls)
The only two who have been consistent all seasonish are Carrick and Evans. Carrick was the ever-present went our team was suffering from injuries, poor form and the demoralization of the 6-1. His solidness was a main factor to bringing us back to stability and he has been having the season of his life, but his impact was more defensive as his role is more to nullify the opposition rather than to score and create goals. It was evident that a spark was missing and Scholes has given us that spark and really brought us out of the water.
Now for Evans: I think he is, along with Scholes, the main man to win the award because his season has been immense. After the red card during the 6-1, he never looked back; he racked up the clean sheets and put in strings of flawless performances and stepped up to the plate admirably in the absence of Vida. I honestly see him as a top-class ball-playing CB now and his composure and solidness has been crucial.
And there you have it. Although every one of the listed candidates has been pivotal to our successes this season, I think Scholes and Evans deserve it most, closely followed by Carrick due to their consistency, which was something hard to come by of late. Also a shout out to De gea who has showed real class, maturity and strength of personality to recover from heaps of criticism as he did. He'll be a world-class keeper no doubt.
