Re: Nani or Young on Monday

well , I know this is after the event but I do think Young would have been more effective , Nani is such a talented player but VERY inconsistent , with Young you know what yer gonna get ... SAF abandoned a key United principal last night /..... PLAY TO WIN !!

Re: Nani or Young on Monday

To start for me it would be neither, would have them on the bench, and I'd rather see a front three of Wellbeck Rooney and Valencia at the back Smalling Evans Ferdinand Evra and De Gea with Scholes Carrick with either Cleverley or Jones in midfield.

Think if we resort to 2 in midfield with 2 wingers from the whistle we would be in trouble having given over so much space in midfield if it's 4-4-2 with the wingers too far up front.

From the off think city will come hard at us and we need to, with 3 in midfield cut down the space between our midfield and defence giving Aguero Tevez and Silva no space and also giving us an ability to stop Toure running through the middle.

Then use Valencia's pace, directness and strength and Wellbeck and Rooney's quick interchanges to hit them fast and make it count, have to be super clinical tonight!

Re: Nani or Young on Monday

I don't understand why we're even asking this question now, Nani has ALWAYS had a good game against City and he's now coming into some very good form. He was excellent against Everton and having Young on the bench to come on is fine by me. The only thing is though that we'll have to make sure that Evra is protected as much as possible because Nani will roam around a lot, although he has started tracking back as well.

I think we're going to see a similar game plan to what he had when we played against City in the FA cup, before Kompany's dismissal we put Welbeck up top and let Rooney slot into the midfield to create the midfield seen in a 4-2-3-1 formation and then we played on the counter which is why Rooney scored that excellent header.

City's fullbacks are perhaps their weakest link and our wingers are our biggest asset so having Nani against Zabaleta and Valencia against Clichy/Kolarov, well we all know what's going to happen there. Plus City are not a team full of width, they prefer playing through the centre and having Rooney in there along with Carrick and Scholes seems like the best bet. I have a feeling though that Sir Alex has got a trick or two planned for tonight...

Young is too predictable when he is attacking unlike Nani who is good at confusing defenders and speeds up the play with Welbeck + Rooney with beautiful football. Valencia on the right to provide good crosses, runs and counter attacks. And Smalling behind Valencia for extra defence

    --------------------------------------------------De Gea---------------------------------------------------

    ---------------------------Smalling--------------Jones--------------Evans----------------------------

    ---------------------------------------------------Carrick---------------------------------------------------

    ------------------Valencia---------------------Scholes--------------------------Evra------------------

I like this...erh...idea. However, placing Jones in center back will almost be suicidal. Only doubt will be leaving out Rafeal, who has the potential to put in a great shift (as history shows he has this knack of performing well after a bad performance). I would go for something similiar, but minor change in the structure. I.e. Evans will be in the center of the back three, and Rio will be in the left center back position. This formation is very flexible aswell and can switch back to the 4-4-1-1 formation we are accustomed to has Smailing can perform at RB and Evra can move back to his original left back position. However, the smart thing to do is probably stick with the formation we played at Everton, but tighten up the defense. Changing structure this late in the season, in a match of this magnitude can have dire outcome. Especially adding players who have not.....erh..... started in over a month.
Yeah I agree with you with Jones in the centre being suicidal.

Young on the left Valencia on the right and Nani on the floating role behind Rooney,so no hernandez and no welbeck.I know that is not going to happen though

Shifting to 3 at the back at this point in the season would be suicidal.

I could see both of them playing tbh, in a 4-2-3-1 type set up, with Valencia on the right, and Nani/Young rotating between the left and behind Rooney. Could also use Giggs off of Rooney to slow the game down if needed.

Re: Nani or Young on Monday

I would hate to be in SAF shoes, what a selection poser this monday is going to be, for me I love them both, Young helps Evra more than Nani, but Nani is one of those players that can just turn a game on its head if he is on his game. To hard to call I am sure the gaffer will get it right. 5 in midfield for me which 5 difficult choice. rooney up front on his own with Nani floating anywhere but could you risk something new on a night like this ?

Re: Nani or Young on Monday

Definitely Nani. His play has been brilliant recently. Young does not have the skills of Nani. Also leave out Evans, his passing is and will be catastrophic to the Man Utd side against City. Evans accuracy with his passing is worse than my local amateur team. Also have you guys not noticed that when the opposition brings the ball down the left wing, all the United players move to the left leaving the right wing totally unmarked, and vise versa, also on an opposition corner they all move to where they expect the opposition to kick to them.....really!!!!!!!!!!!!! leaving opposition players unmarked. I have been a Man Utd fan for more than 50 years, and for just about every game this season I have been left shaking my head.

your not negative in any way I say Nani he is in good form. Even though he didn't score vs city at the Etihad he played really, I don't think he played on OCT. 23, and the most memorable the two goals in the CS

Re: Nani or Young on Monday

i'd have Nani and Young too, as much as I love Valencia I think he'll be man marked in this game. I'd have them two on either side of Rooney (who should have a free role) with Carrick and Scholes retaining possession. Then Welbeck up top, we won't get many chances but Welbeck could hold the ball up and bring others into play and he's been hitting the net the last while. I actually think that in the 4-2-3-1 that Welbeck Rooney, Nani and Young could all interchange positoins and cause a lot of trouble for City.

To be able to be able to call on the experience of Giggs, the power of Valencia and the finishing of Hernandez could seperate the teams. So for me, if the game was stale mate, I'd bring on those three for the last 20-30 minutes and go 4-4-2. Honestly believe we can win the league tomorrow.
