JoeYoung:It is not 100% the players fault. When we had Carlos Queiroz in the staff (2004-2008) we bought Rooney, Evra, Vidic, Park, Van Der Sar, Carrick, Tevez, Nani, Anderson, both Da silva's and Hargo (oh dear) These were the major signing and these were all fantastic signings, bar hargo and maybe Anderson.
The years he has not been here (2008-present) we have signed Tosic, Berbatov, De Laet, Diouf, Obertan, Valencia, Lindegaard, Bebe, Hernandez, Smalling, Jones, De Gea and Young.
You can see the massive change in typ eof player we have signed since he had left. Berbatov, very good player, did great for us but not even being played now? Seems like a waste of 30 mil to me. De laet is a fail signing, so was diouf and obertan, Valencia was our best signing in the last 4 years. Lindegaard was to fill he gaps now. Bebe - what a fail. Hernandez, great sgning and great spot by the scouts but looks to me as if he is a sub. Smalling and Jones - The coaching staff don't even know what position to put Jones in.. Fantastic talent but I fera the staff could ruin him. Smalling is a natural, no compaints. Brilliant footballer. De Gea was a great signing and Young was a necessary and fit in well, but not eactly a world beater like we have seen Carlos Queiroz produce.
Moral of the story is - bring Carlos Queiroz back.
Forget Queiroz. Bring Kidd back. That guy, IMO, is the best assistant manager for Sir Alex. Doesn't matter if he went to Man. City. He's an excellent assistant manager who also had great tactical awareness and brought us so much success in his spell. Or even McClaren. He's another good option.
Speaking of Queiroz, isn't this the same assistant manager who played Alan Smith, Rio Ferdinand, and John O'Shea in midfield? Is this the same manager who tried to change us to a 4-3-3 when it clearly wasn't suiting our team? You guys are talking about making Queiroz a manager when he flopped as a manager/head coach every time? The same guy who brought in Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, etc., during his 2002-2003 spell? The same guy who Roy Keane heavily criticised in MUTV?
I do understand that, in his time, we have seen good success from 2006 to 2008. And at this time, we have seen good transfers, too. However, why fully credit Queiroz for all of them? The only ones Queiroz really had an influence in was bringing in were Nani, Anderson, the da Silva's, and maybe Tevez. The rest seemed like good work from the scouts or obvious signings. Even then, the reason such transfers were made was clearly obvious: we didn't have good youth academy products coming through. The only ones worthy at that time were Fletcher and O'Shea. Richardson was decent, but that was it. No one else was good enough. How is it that we couldn't have made such transfers? Signings were needed then. Would you think that the likes of Liam Miller, Ebanks-Blake, Brandy, Lee Martin, Eagles, etc., could guide us to success? The current bunch we have look better than them. Currently, we have Cleverley and Welbeck already in the first team along with Evans. The likes of Will Keane, Larnell Cole, Michael Keane, and Paul Pogba have already been given chances. Petrucci has often traveled with the first team. We have better youth coming through here than before. Even then, we went and made good signings to fill in the immediate gaps. Smalling, Jones, de Gea, and Berbatov in his peak, and Lindegaard.
The only problem right now is that we are currently in a transition period, and people are going gaga over Queiroz as if he was a saviour just because Man. City are above us. There is nothing special about Queiroz. We've been as successful, if not more, with Kidd and McClaren around. Why weren't people wanting them to come back? Just because they don't have the continental flavour?
