Re: Mike Ashley has another Carroll on his hands, how much to sell Cisse?

    Stanley Jones:
Isn't this supposed to be General United threads. What has this got to do with United?

Well, they are called Newcastle UNITED :p

On a more serious note, I think it would be unfair for a big team to come in and take Cisse from them because he was there for the taking but only Newcastle were brave enough to actually go for it. He was linked with Arsenal (exactly the player they need) and Tottenham (also a team that will be lacking in strikers once Adebayor returns to City) as well as many other top teams in Europe, but none were willing to go for it. I'd actually like to see the old rivalry between us and Newcastle return, and whilst I can't see them doing as well next season, I really hope they get into the UCL and improve their squad to put up a title challenge. Imagine us, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle (if the latter two can hold on to their stars and Chelsea get in a stable management team) all challenging for the title. It's going to be one hell of a season!

    United will never die

The signings Newcastle have made in Ba, Cisse, Tiote and Cabaye have been great deals, but there's no guarantee that they could find players who would do this well again. They're guaranteed a spot in the Europa next season, and could well make the champions league. Why sell your stars when you're in a position where you can earn money from other avenues..

I can see them selling Ba, as he has got a history of injury problems, but unless they're offered silly money for the others then they would be foolish to let them go. I don't see that they can easily replace them without spending silly money themselves.

What has this got to do with United? We won't be buying Cisse so bit irrelevant.

Cisse is a very good player. He won't turn out anything like Carroll.

Re: Mike Ashley has another Carroll on his hands, how much to sell Cisse?

I agree that Cisse is fantastic, but this is Newcastle here, they are NOT a big club still, even though they are certainly acting like one. Financially they are not in a position of having the luxury of keeping all of their highest performing players, they need to consistently buy low, sell high and then buy 3,4 players with that profit, until they're stable. Carroll pretty much bankrolled Tiote, Cabaye, Cisse, Ben Arfa, Ba and Santon, with plenty of change... how much are those players worth altogether now? 100 million plus? easily. If they sell just one of their 20 million plus players right now, that funds moves for a further, 2,3,4 players, who if they wheel and deal enough, will all come to the club for little and end up worth a lot, lot more. Players available this summer who would be fairly cheap and have the potential to rise? well you've got the likes of Moses, Jarvis, Jamie O'Hara, Tim Ream, Sigurdsson, Pienaar, Anderson from us, Park ji sung who won't rise but is solid, Berbatov????, and then of course the French league which they know very well. You have to realise that Newcastle have shot up because of buying low and selling high, they can't stop now, as soon as a club starts to act big, and make the 20-30 million pound signings, and hangs on to their star performers too long and doesn't sell at their peak, they soon shoot right back down. Football for a club like Newcastle is like investment banking, you've got to know when the price is right, it's vital... right now, I'd say Cisse and Cabaye are at their peak prices, they are over achieving massively, and their fees would be huge right now, but they could quite easily go from hero to zero in a month, they don't have the premier league history and expierience behind them to tell us otherwise, so they're risky assets. Sell now, Cabaye or Cisse, or both, get the 20-30 million, and re-invest.

Don't think they will sell him or Ba. I never thought it was about money. They had a catalyst of troublemakers at the club, Carroll and Barton being the main culprits. pardew has built a team on great team ethos. He should be congratulated.

I think there is more chance of them selling Demba Ba than Cisse. Even if Cisse was to eventually be sold I highly doubt it will be a few months after him joining, can't see either him or the owners wanting that to happen.

Mike Ashley has another Carroll on his hands, how much to sell Cisse?

They signed him for 10 million give or take, they got Dema Ba on a free, they sold the abysmal Carroll for 35 million, they've brought in Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Tiote etc. I now see Ashley setting the course for selling Cisse at the end of the season, his value right now will easily be around the £30 million mark, it should actually be more since he is twice the player Carroll is. Who would buy him? I think Chelsea would be up there, even City (not that they need him) and even Spurs too if they sold Modric, whoever wants him though, will paid major money. And then what happens to Newcastle? well they'll make a tidy 20-25 million profit on Cisse, and can simply revert back to playing Demba Ba up front, Ben Arfa out wide, Jonas, Cabaye, Tiote etc. They are such good wheeler dealers, I imagine with 20 million, they'd probably bring in 3 or 4 players and still have 10 million change. Clint Dempsey is tailor made for Newcastle in the summer, and available on a free, Victor Moses is another player who would be a great addition to them, available for around 5-8 million I suspect, he would give them great options with Dempsey across the front 3, being able to choose from Ba, Dempsey, Moses and Ben Arfa. In central midfield, another addition wouldn't do them any harm, Sigurdsson if they can manage to get him for 10 million would be ideal, although hey may already be too big for them. In defence they need some quality at left back, and they can do with a central defender. I know Utd were linked with him, but Brian Oviedo would be available quite cheap, I'd sign him up and then finally, a centre back to partner Coloccini, for me it would be Shawcross or Hangerland. Looking to spend 25 million altogether.
