SHINED:
1.) Carrick - Once he got going, he was a real consistent part in our midfield for the remainder of the season. Often a scapegoat for when the team is playing well, but is usually an unsung hero at his ability to make other players play better due to his simplicity, ability to keep the ball and spray to all areas of the pitch. Poor mans xavi, but still pretty damn good.
2.) Valencia - Our most consistent winger and most dangerous crosser. Believe he was 2nd behind silva in league for assists.
3.) Evans - Did as good a job as any to try to fill the hole that Vidic left. Really picked up his consistency this year.
4.) Rooney - Top goal scorer, top player, will always shine.
5.) Welbeck - Surpassed expectations to almost secure the starting role alongside Rooney. Perhaps not as natural as a goal scorer as Chicha, Berba, or even Owen and Macheda, but his overall contribution is what carried him to his starting role. Fantastic work rate offensively and defensively. Great strength and hold up play to really supplement Rooney well.
DID NOT SHINE/DISSAPOINTED/UNFORTUNATE:
1.) The injury bug - Losing vidic, fletcher, cleverly, ando (not too suprsing here, but he was playing really well when healthy and fit), and all of the other little nagging injuries came at some pretty innoportune moments.
2.) Jones (During the second half of the season) - Started the season immense, but seemed to almost blow his load too early. (Hard task to ask for from a 20 year old though, not too worried, just needs some more games under his belt. his role as a utility player may hinder any real dominance at any one spot too.)
3) Young (Second half of season) - Same as Jones, sort of blew his load too soon. His first few games were spectacular, and he never really returned from his injury with any sort of consistency. The diving also brought back a small shame feeling not felt since the days of cr7. Hard to be happy and cheer for diving.
4) Hernandez - Not saying he had a bad season, but he was hampered by missing preseason with a head-injury and was seemed to take a step back, and not forward, from his breakout season last year. Hopefully a good rest and prepared preseason can put him back on track for a possible 20+ season again.
5) Giggs - Was not in a position to contribute as much as he could this season due to his struggles to carry his weight defensively in a 2 man central mid pair. Would do better in a 3 man midfield, but that would get rooney out of his preferred supporting striker role.
6) (since some may say that my number 1 didn't count) Evra - Seems to be on the decline ever since the French disaster at 2010 in South Africa. He still played well but not the usual rock at left back that we've been accustomed to. Too many goals, including two in the everton crash, came from crosses on his side. Also I wasn't a fan of him celebrating right in front of Suarez: should have taken the high road to prove United = class, Scousers = trash.
