I just wanted to know which players made a good impression and who disappoint us this crazy season....Thoughts??? For me: 5 who SHINED-->Rooney,A.Valencia,Carrick,Evans,Young 5 who LET US DOWN-->Evra,Nani,Chicharito,Giggs,FERGIE
For me the 5 players who shined were Rooney, Valencia, Welbeck, Hernandez, Young 4 players who let us down were Rafael, Park, Giggs, Berbatov
Honey, I am surprised that you have managed to squeeze in other names besides Hernandez - from you I was expecting something of the sort "Hernandez, Hernandez, Hernandez, Hernandez, Hernandez..."
I have said this before, I am not just a Hernandez fan, but I am also a Manchester United fan.

Fergie worked a minor Miracle this season, to get us, still in contention, to win the Premiership, on the final day, with the panel of players at his disposal....... With injuries, and the worst panel I have seen for years, he really surprised everyone.......The players, lost it against Everton, otherwise we would be Champions now.........

For all those that say Chicharito let us down - nonsense. Welbeck was obviously preferred to start along side Rooney - hence Chicharito barely got a chance to impose himself. He's a top notch striker and I fear if he isnt given more starts next season, he may leave. GGMU
Chicha started 18 PL games and came on as sub in another 10 (28 from 38). Welbeck started 23 and came on as sub in 7 (30 from 38). To complain that Chicha didn't get a chance to impose himself is rubbish, like all our players he needs to fight for his starting place in the team. The truth is he had a poor season compared to last year, he had injury problems and struggled at times to find his form, but with a good break this summer he should be back to his best.

Can't really name 5 for each group, but I thought Valencia was the best player overall this season. Cleverly has shone great potential. I am a litle disappointed with Chicharito but I guess he was not given many opportunities to prove himself as Welbeck has taken his place more regulary this season. Young and Jones started rather well at first, but wore off a little towards the end.

The ones that shined for me was: Rooney, Young, Scholes, Valencia and Wellbeck The ones that let themselves and us down; Evra, Chicharito, Evans, Jones and Berbatov. Its maybe unfair picking only 5 good ones and 5 bad ones, and to focus on certain mistakes but if you play at that level then you must be open to criticism when it comes your way. Not just any footballer have the honour of wearing the Red of United and if you do get presented that oppurtunity then you must make sure you are 110% commited and focused on the clubs goals and the fans hopes! Evra let us down in the FA cup semi in the last minute when he let DK score, hard to forget that and alot of the other lackluster performances. The mexican just never got started and his finishing lacked this season, Evans well Evans is Evans and he is not a United centre back, Jones cannot play in the United midfield, he lacks the skill and creativeness that has become trademark of Scholes,Giggs, Keane and Beckham to name but a few. Berba had the oppurtunity to prove his value and force a regular spot in the team but he just did not care, maybe there is a lot of behind the scenes stuff we dont know about but if you have the talent but lack the commitment then you will not make it anywhere significant. We can say we were unlucky on the final day, Yes maybe. But lets not forget we had 8 points on the ultimate winners, we messed up and lacked our famous Unite "Run In" character. We stumbled when we could not afford it and sadly fell at the feet of our noisy "oil financed" neighbours at the Ethihad, which was a very sad night. We should have used that game to stand United and show our history, pride and drive. Instead we sheepishly played for a draw, trying to avoid the master hiding behind the sofa! United Forever

Fergie let us down with his favouritism and poor selections..... I thot the defenders did ok given the absence of Vidic, our attack was poor but not shambolic, however the midfield is DIABOLICAL ... What exactly is the purpose of Carrick, he can tackle, he can't make a for ward pass, he can't content an aerial ball.... Boy, i missed Fletcher and Ando I hope for a better next year. Please buy us a defensive and a creative midfield ...and bring back Quieroz as chief coach, he is out of work anyway
You do realise that many others have included Carrick as one of those who shined? If Carrick's critics here can say hes had a good season, its rather unfortunate that you have revealed you are probably that fan who sits on his couch and waits for a goal,a mazy dribble,a crunching challenge that makes the opponent go down like a pack of cards.
The OP clearly asked who people thought was the best during the season and who didn't do too well you don't have to agree with people's opinions or correct them that's what they think period. Depends on how you look at things and IMO if Carrick was one of our best performers then it aint hard to see how we were torn apart in Europe and outplayed by any team that had the guts to attack us in the EPL(Newcastle, Everton, Man City e.t.c).

Re: Season Overview: 5 players who shined and 5 who let us down

    SHINED:

1.) Carrick - Once he got going, he was a real consistent part in our midfield for the remainder of the season. Often a scapegoat for when the team is playing well, but is usually an unsung hero at his ability to make other players play better due to his simplicity, ability to keep the ball and spray to all areas of the pitch. Poor mans xavi, but still pretty damn good.

2.) Valencia - Our most consistent winger and most dangerous crosser. Believe he was 2nd behind silva in league for assists.

3.) Evans - Did as good a job as any to try to fill the hole that Vidic left. Really picked up his consistency this year.

4.) Rooney - Top goal scorer, top player, will always shine.

5.) Welbeck - Surpassed expectations to almost secure the starting role alongside Rooney. Perhaps not as natural as a goal scorer as Chicha, Berba, or even Owen and Macheda, but his overall contribution is what carried him to his starting role. Fantastic work rate offensively and defensively. Great strength and hold up play to really supplement Rooney well.

    DID NOT SHINE/DISSAPOINTED/UNFORTUNATE:

1.) The injury bug - Losing vidic, fletcher, cleverly, ando (not too suprsing here, but he was playing really well when healthy and fit), and all of the other little nagging injuries came at some pretty innoportune moments.

2.) Jones (During the second half of the season) - Started the season immense, but seemed to almost blow his load too early. (Hard task to ask for from a 20 year old though, not too worried, just needs some more games under his belt. his role as a utility player may hinder any real dominance at any one spot too.)

    3) Young (Second half of season) - Same as Jones, sort of blew his load too soon. His first few games were spectacular, and he never really returned from his injury with any sort of consistency. The diving also brought back a small shame feeling not felt since the days of cr7. Hard to be happy and cheer for diving.

    4) Hernandez - Not saying he had a bad season, but he was hampered by missing preseason with a head-injury and was seemed to take a step back, and not forward, from his breakout season last year. Hopefully a good rest and prepared preseason can put him back on track for a possible 20+ season again.

    5) Giggs - Was not in a position to contribute as much as he could this season due to his struggles to carry his weight defensively in a 2 man central mid pair. Would do better in a 3 man midfield, but that would get rooney out of his preferred supporting striker role.

    6) (since some may say that my number 1 didn't count) Evra - Seems to be on the decline ever since the French disaster at 2010 in South Africa. He still played well but not the usual rock at left back that we've been accustomed to. Too many goals, including two in the everton crash, came from crosses on his side. Also I wasn't a fan of him celebrating right in front of Suarez: should have taken the high road to prove United = class, Scousers = trash.

Re: Season Overview: 5 players who shined and 5 who let us down

Spot on. I mean, he dragged us through the season at points. The sheer averageness of United this season was frightening. But that is a recipe of a lot of things. Wrote an article about this on my blog and I reckon it all started 3 years ago. Lost two great players and never really was able to replace them properly. Then we lost Scholes and van der Sar, Neville too evn though his knees were gone. Still 5 that shone were: Cleverley (a lot to offer next year), Welbeck (surely on the plane to Euro 2012), De Gea (since he learnt English), Evans and Valencia. I won't count Scholes because he is a given. 5 who struggled could be any of the rest of the team. That is how bad we were.

Fergie let you down? I think that is ridiculous. 5 reasons we lost the title are: Carrick, Giggs, Park, Pogba and Injuries. Carrick for being Carrick and not offering anything else. Giggs because when we needed him in Europe he didn't materialise. Park because he is meant to be our Yaya Toure? Do me a favour. Pogba because he wasn't given a chance. Cleverley, Fletcher, Anderson and Vidic all out for long periods. Any one of those involved in the run in would have seen us lift the title.
