Re: Are we just signing Kagawa because he's cheap?

He is too good to pass up in terms of things he offers us. He is probably worth 20 mil and is a really good player. But for me his addition to United would be an improvement to an already good squad. And lets not forget the money he would possibly bring in by opening up a whole new possible fan base.
He has a lot of talent he does things that can't be taught

He will be in the last year of his contract and he didnt sign an extension so Dortmund need to sell and he should be a cheaper option. Do you think we would go for him if he still had 4 years left and would cost £20m - £25m? I don't think so. This is Uniteds mentality the past couple years when it comes to transfers. Just goes to show, the moneys not actually there
do you realise how past old the saying "the money is not there" is, was, and he's been! If your looking for a club to sign players like city than go follow city because it simply isn't going to happen here regardless of how much money is in the account, do you want to know why? the answer is the same now a it was 5 years ago when money was even tighter at this club because of the pik's, SAF. If you can't accept this it is time for you to move on out at the very least stop acting like a little b::tch.

surely gettin a world class playmaker, who has contributed more to dortmund than goetze has this year (injured but still), has had better seasons than lots of playmakers linked with us, still young and yes he is cheaper, this is a plus, seriously, who cares if city think we have no money? what difference does it make? it also shows we will continue to develop our club, without being screwed over by money in the future, and tbh. nasri for 24 mil or kagawa for 15? torres for 50 mil or cisse for 10? carroll for 35 mil or hernandez for 6.6? less money means nothing as im pretty sure most people on here will realise just how good kagawa is, and just because we dont blow 40mil + on a midfielder, doesnt mean were skint. saves money for other positions that fergie needs as well.
    Thanks man couldn't agree more!

I could name a hundreds of players out there that are cheap but it doesnt mean we will sign them, the reason we MAY sign kagawa is because he is an excellent talent. He has been brilliant for dortmund and the few times ive watched him he looks top quality with bags of potential. Obviously him having a smaller price tag will make fergie more eager but in know way shape or form are we buying this guy just because he is cheap. I dont really advise it much but if you havnt seen him play just look on youtube at the guy and his quality is there for everyone to see
Depends on the video but if you have good football knowledge you just know if he has the potential or if it's just another "best moments compilation" Sometimes there are just those moments where an average or even good player never would think about that special pass/trick and so on. But i agree important things like how he moves without the ball etc. you can't see it in those videos

Wrong, you just don't want him because he isn't expensive.

Truth is you really don't know that much about him and have judged him by his small price tag

He is in the same bracket as Hazard in terms of how well he plays

No mate we're only signing this Kagawa because he's cheap. It's not as if he was Dortmund's best player this season, or that he has an excellent goals and assists record in one of the toughest league's, or that all the top clubs are after him. No we just want him because he's cheap (sigh)

We're signing Kagawa because he is an exceptional talent for an exceptionally low price. A second and less important reason for signing him is because we are not going to be resigning Park Ji Sung and it is necessary for financial purposes that we sign another East Asian player to maintain our popularity in that area of the world. Revenue is key to maintaining the fresh young talent that this club is built around.

ozil - 12 million van der vaart - 8 million they prove you don't need to spend big to bring in quality i think we are crying out to sign hazard to be honest, but he is in excess of £30 million and i wonder whether or not we will indeed sign him. there are good if not great players available on the cheap we just have to go out and find them and i think kagawa is one of those whether or not he is the answer to all our midfield problems is another thing though, but he is a snip at the £10 million that is being banded around, especially when you look last season and see some of the fees for average players - and yes i realise most of them are english. downing - 20 million bent - 24 million torres - 50 million carroll - 35 million

Berba wouldn't change anything cause Shinji doesn't speak german at all. Wenger's ability to speak japanese could be a plus for them.

Slightly off topic (didn't want to contribute to the growing list of Kagawa threads by starting a new 1 lol) but does anyone know how good (if any) Shinjis English is?

its not like we have any fluant Japanese speakers in the side and as far as i know Berbatov (who if a decent bid comes in is most likely off) is probably the only player in the squad who's likely to speak German from his time over there.

Just wondering as it'll have a big bearing on how quickly he integrates with the squad and communicates with his team mates.

Good point, especially with wenger speaking japanese but I'm sure it isn't the first time that the club or the player have faced this problem

Re: Are we just signing Kagawa because he's cheap?

@PaddyG> I will answer your question, though off course only SAF and Gill know the true answer. In my perspective, we would sign him, even if he cost 25mil if SAF believed he was good enough. We paid 18 mil pounds for a keeper (overpaid), because he was what SAF wanted him. Paid a lot of cash for Jones as well as Young and both have turned out to be quality (Youngs diving aside). Personally I believe Utd can afford transfer fees and even paying the 30 mils and 40 mils it would take to get a Hazzard, however I don't think they can afford his personal demands. From what I understand our top player Rooney earns around 200k. Compare that to Yaya Toure, Tevez, Aguero etc earning a rumored 250k and Hazzard demanding 200k from City to begin with. How can Utd afford to pay an unproven albeit talented player the same salary as someone like Rooney and much more than everyone else on the team. It would cause and uproar and everyone demanding more money, not to mention disharmony in the locker room. It sucks to miss out on the top rated players, but given City's financial clout and crazy salaries, we cant compete with that. If the Financial Fair Play rules are actually implemented I cant see any way for City to actually qualify for the CL with their current setup (though expect the sheikh to do more 300 mil for renaming stadium like deals to hoodwink this FFP rules). Utd can do that, so we need to follow a stable financial policy.
