I went to watch the 2006 World Cup 1/4's in Germany and I can say with absolute certainty, Owen Hargreaves is hands down the best defensive midfield player I have ever had the privilege to watch. The guy had some real bad look with injuries, made some terrible choices off the pitch post United but never forget the guy was a warrior on the pitch. I would expect childish, tasteless name calling from those pole smokers over at wastelands but come on, were United fans. Show some class fella's :-) Rant over. #MUFC
Totally agree. Hargo was an absolute warrior on the pitch. It was a privaledge to watch him in the 2008. This guy was a box to box fighting midfielder and above all had strength and ability to tackle /defend and attack. Fergie could play him at the back and in the middle. Shame his fitness declined after that year. Hears to Hargo ! enjoy - > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7oG8P0NnGI

If I was him, I would want to leave! because he had a pay as you play contract, I don't think 4 games worth of salary is enough mate.
    I dunno 4 x 80,000 for a years "work", I'd take it!
I'd play the entire season for that money, with a big smile on my face 

I really feel for him, even though he slagged United. He made the wrong decision when he went to City and now he's payed for it. Hopefully a club like Southampton or Reading will go for him and give him a chance to actually play some football. But things don't exactly look great for him...

He was fit for about 3 months but dont understand why mancini didnt play him.
Injuries or not, anyone who had stopped playing football for the best part of 4 years would find it a struggle to reach their peak again.

I think his injuries were behind him, people are saying about him not playing for City, he has actually been fit all season, he's just not been able to get ahead of De Jong, Barry or Toure, no fault of his own he is 31 and hasn't played much football.

I honestly believe when 100% he is still the best DM in the country and in the top 10 of best DM's in the world
He is either not fit or nowhere near the player he once was.

Remember they signed Pizzaro in January on loan, they saw him as a better option.

5 years ago, i would have agreed, one of the best, but now???

If he is fully fit, then hes obviously not good enough now. Been out of the game for so long, that was always likely to happen.

Shame that a talented footballer has had to succumb to injury, but he doesnt have my sympathy.

I went to watch the 2006 World Cup 1/4's in Germany and I can say with absolute certainty, Owen Hargreaves is hands down the best defensive midfield player I have ever had the privilege to watch. I was as annoyed that he left us, signed for S***ty and moaned about the United medical team but don't forget we did let him go. It is a crying shame that his injury prevented him from ever becoming the legend that he was supposed to be at OT. I for one hope his career continues at another club and wish him all the best. The guy had some real bad look with injuries, made some terrible choices off the pitch post United but never forget the guy was a warrior on the pitch. Re: Hargreaves

When he took that jibe against the medical team, I lost a bit of respect for him but, I think all he wanted to do was play football for us and be a key player so you can understand his frustration, was kind of odd that he got back to full fitness then we released him, would have made more sense just to keep him on, I think his injuries were behind him, people are saying about him not playing for City, he has actually been fit all season, he's just not been able to get ahead of De Jong, Barry or Toure, no fault of his own he is 31 and hasn't played much football.

I honestly believe when 100% he is still the best DM in the country and in the top 10 of best DM's in the world, he was the key part to our 08 team and a fair amount of our injuries this season have been silly training ground injuries so maybe we need to have a look at that, if it was game impact which his last deciding injury was when he played for 8 minutes, then that's fair enough, nothing a player can do about that, like Davies tackle on Clevs and now everyone calls him injury prone.

But, best of luck to him, he is an ex-red after all and even though he went to City, I don't hold that against him, he got around 300,000 for playing 4 games, who's the real winner here? With his injury crisis, I think he went to City for one last big pay day. I hope he goes somewhere where he can get first team regular football because with his style of play, he could still play for another 4/5 years injuries dependant.
