U know nothing about football. And trying to explain Modric's game to is quite pointless because your brain must've been subbed by pouridge.

Modric is like the timing chain on your car. He is the guy who keeps everything synchronized. You don´t miss him until he is gone. That is what world class is, a player who makes everyone around him perform better. That´s Modric. Of course we need him after last season. It is proven you can never have too much depth or quality.
    Stated perfectly.

    MODRIC - 2011/12 all competitions 6 goals 5 assists

May I remind you Modric isn't much of a goal scorer, he's a player maker. Yes he doesn't have pretty stats but look at Xavi's stats this season? Does that make Hazard better than him? Modric is different, he controls the game. Don't get me wrong im not sticking up for him, im merely pointing out he's really an out and out AM like I thought he was.

    karlel86:
HAZARD- 2011/12 all competitions 21 goals 18 assists

Watch one of his season videos on YouTube, or the internet NOT one of the rubbish ones that just pick out his best moments (they're very deceiving.) None of his assist's came from him playing the ball down the centre like Kagawa does. He's not an AM, he's a winger, that's why for instance he couldn't break down and easy England team the other night. He takes all of Lille's free kicks and corners, so of course he'd have more assists and goals, and he plays in League 1. Plus 21 goals, 9 of which where penalties so overall 14 goals more or less.

    karlel86:
    KAGAWA - 2011/12 all competitions 17 goals 9 assists

Completely amazing midfielder, hugely underrated, in a good league, got Bundesliga player of the year, can cut open defences (rare skill) one of the best buys in years (and that is saying something.) He's got 17 goals, 0 penalties.

It is funny how everyone is now on the..erh..Modric bandwagon. Yet 5 months ago, the majority of people on this forum did not want him here. Eitherway, I like Modric and he will be a great addition. The only concern now is what role will scholes be playing if he does come here. SAF said Scholes will play almost ...erh...30 plus games next season, and with the addition of Modric, that will be impossible unless we hindered the progress of Cleverley. Anyway, at 37, Scholes should not play 30 plus games nor should he be the focal point of our midfield. So the addition of Modric is understable on the behalf of what was said before.

Luka Modric, Shinji Kagawa, Nathianel Clyne, Nick Powell, and Angelo Henriquez/Viktor Fisher will ...erh...surffice for a great summer. With Phil Jones providing that steal and grit in the midfield when necessary, and Clyne providing competition for rafeal and Evra in the fullback position.

    ,

I think the main question is not the concern with scholes, but what will happen with Cleverley as he is supposed to be our future midfield

It's called strength in depth, Modric is a fantastic role model for Cleverley, Scholes is further security should injuries occur, no club going all out on all fronts can just have a great first eleven, Cleverley/Scholes can rotate with Modric as a midfield engine, Carrick and an M'Vila rotate as more of an anchoring Busquets type role and so on. There are plenty of games in four competitions for everyone to get plenty of games and be part of a successful squad and that's before injuries.

I think you have to discount the likes of Fletcher and Anderson due to injury/illness and expect Anderson to be off-loaded tbh.

I don't think we need another striker however and it is those rumours that have me more baffled tbh, especially with the comments from the Poland coach.

I believe Cleverley should be second choice to Modric(if he does come) rather than Scholes (that will still give Cleverley alot of game time). Even though Scholes showed he is still capable of performing at the ...erh...highest level, I would want Scholes to play a lesser role next season in order to furthur develop Cleverley progress. But whatever SAF decide, it will be for the best of our players.

Modric is probably one of the best creative midfielders in the premiership, say yes to Modric. Your argument doesn't work, if Scholes plays a long accurate pass to Valencia who then whips in a cross and Rooney scores, according to your reckoning because he didn't provide the assist or score the goal Scholes is no good. You really don't understand football.
My point exactly well said Nige
    this!
couldn't put it better myself he plays exactly like scholes probly tackles better IMO and I'd like for u to look at the stats of scholes in term of assists and check xavi's as well for good measure then comeback and tell me if they're any good ok?

People that would say no to a player because his stats don't look good simply don't understand football. I can't take you serious.

The funny thing is............ When for example, people say Carrick isn't good enough, then the stats is very important...... But now when someone says a player isn't good enough because of his stats, suddenly stats means nothing..... :D Just saying....

Don't get me wrong, I think Modric is a good player.... But if we buy him, he certainly has to improve somewhat.... And I would choose other players over him, if they were available.... But I'm not sure we have any option... We need a CM and if he's the only one available, then I say, go for him....

No mate there is a difference. For someone to say we shouldn't get a player because his stats don't look good is simplistic and shows they don't understand football.

As for Carrick people use stats such as how many forward passes he makes per game for example to disprove myths such as he only passes backwards. That's totally different to saying oh because he hasn't got as much assists and goals as Hazard he isn't good enough. That displays poor football knowledge.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death I assure you it's much more serious than that

Did you take into account the massive difference in level between the french league, the bundesliga and the BPL? Furthermore, Modric had his head turned by Chelsea and his injury which hampered his preseason didn't help. I don't want him mainly because we need to give our youngsters a chance, but I just couldn't help commenting on your stupid post.

    Re: SAY NO TO MODRIC

I don't get the hype around Modric, and I consider myself a knowledgeable football fan, with a good knowledge of Premiership players.

He plays very simple football, and it can be easy on the eye, but so does Kagawa, and he's already been signed. Therefore, I don't know where Modric would fit.

I've heard that Sir Alex convinced Kagawa to sign by telling him that he'd be playing behind Rooney in the centre of an attacking trio in a 4-2-3-1 formation. That would leave Modric as a deep lying midfielder, where many feel he can play his best football, but with Scholes signing a contract extension, and Michael Carrick a revelation last season, I can't see it, as it would make our midfield even more flimsy.

What we need is a defensive minded midfielder. I love Tiote, and I even wrote an article suggesting why he should be signed instead of Modric, but the African Cup of Nations could pose problems, so a player like Fellaini would be an outstanding signing.

We need steel, not silk, and Modric would only add the latter.

How about sensational? How about superb? A goal from the realms of greatness!

Well we all credit Paul Scholes for coming out of retirement and helping us ensure City had to win the trophy in the last minute of the season. But I ask you, how many goals did scholes score and how many assists did he have? So a good player is not all about goals and assists. Scholes helped our mid become composed and less outpayed like at Newcastle away. So I say Modric coming here is GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!! I mean if we had outbid chelsea and bought him last yr, guys would av been ecstatic as most guys last yr were for sneijder or modric. Now a yr later when we seem like we r going to get him, guys now see him as rubbish.

So your basically calling de gea rubbish for not scoring and assisting? There are more to players than to just goalscoring ability! Modric would be a play maker, playing through balls to our striker/s. I would love to see him here!
