    Re: OT naming rights

You realise that the company that has bought City's naming rights is a company owned by the family of the Sheikh? Not sure if you're putting 2 + 2 together here but with their mega spending they needed a large injection of cash to get around the FFP rules that are coming in to force this year. This sponsorship is also something that UEFA are looking in to as a result of a complaint from Liverpool, the main sticking point being that Etihad Airways is a company that has never posted a profit so there are questions at how a company in such a position can go an sponsor a stadium for £400 million. I am somewhat doubtful any team in the world would get such an amount of money for stadium naming rights be it United, Madrid, Barca etc. Let alone the level of hate directed toward the Glazers at the moment would make it an incredibly dangerous move in terms of PR and it may just be the straw that broke the camels back. I understand the worry about the debt but the way United is being run at the moment is pretty standard with sports teams in America. The brightside for United is that there would always be someone happy to buy and have a go at clearing the debt just in a different way to which the Glazers are doing at the moment. You have to remember the Manchester United is a massive global brand and changing the name of OT would detract from that.

Only a local would know. Glory fuckers won't mind seeing another name grace (destroy) the beautiful stadium.
So i take it you'd much be against it then mate ? and i'm local if 15 miles away qualifies and for what its worth I'd rather have a reputable stadium sponsor added to OT name than be saddled with a £500m debt.
By all means, if you're a local have the *** to share this idea around Manc instead of the net. Old Trafford is the last reminder of everything this club is about, we're not going to sell our soul for a few star signings the Mooner way.
Mate but you missing the whole point of the thread , its not about signing big money primo's to compete with Bert and its certainly not looking for conflict its about clearing the debt and how you guys would feel about it. And what are you talking about only having the bal1s to talk about it on the net ? lol

Just want your views on OT naming rights, seeing City selling the council house naming rights for a ridiculous £400m surely it would be wise for us to think about it ? as long as the Old Tr afford is incorporated in the name for example Old Trafford Nike stadium, would you guys agree to something like this if the club could generate say £500m to clear its debts? I'm sorry if this offends but this whole debt thing is getting really worrying and i'm merely making suggestions.
You do realize that city only got 400m because the owner of Etihad is city's owners half-brother. Didn't Arsenal only get 40m for Emirates?

there was talk that Nike wanted to buy the rights so funny you used that example. I think Old Trafford Nike Stadium would be a great idea if we got 400m out of it and kept Old Trafford in the name that is
Lol i swear i never seen that mate but like you said Nike would be a classy addition if need be.
there is also talk of Pepsi. Check this link out. http://www.unitedrant.co.uk/just-for-fun/secret-glazer-deal-to-sell-old-trafford-naming-rights/

someone will say it's just a name, but IMO ... it's not like that.

or maybe it's time to look forward and adapt to reality

IMO ... I think we are already wh@ring too much the brand Manchester United ...

but looks like that's the way it is. that commercial deals brought us more cookies Smile to grow even more

what ever will be will be, and the choice will be for better for sure, but I'm against changing the name of the ground...

there're much better and more decent ways to go around FFP rules Smile Smile

PREMIER LEAGUE IS ALL ABOUT MANCHESTER UNITED WHILE OTHERS ARE FIGHTING FOR LEFTOVERS

    Re: OT naming rights

I don't understand why people would be upset by this, because everyone will still call it Old Trafford, the same as most people call Cities ground Eastlands. The only place the name changes is on tv and football games really. I wouldn't be happy with some names ofcourse, so we should go for class. As someone said earlier though, why couldn't we call it something like the Old Trafford Nike stadium? I don't see a problem with that.

i'm sure we would all be pretty upset if this happened.
it's an option to clear the dept for a temporary change. it's just an option i wouldn't want to see.
although the Sellotape Arena does have a ring to it...
Lol mate but like i said has long as its made clear Old Trafford had to be in the name then surely adding Nike or AON in the name would be a worthwhile sacrifice to clear this ball and chain round our necks.

yeah i agree. but how much would they pay for that you know. because it's not like you are changing the name. so it depends how much they'd be willing to pay for it.

Well City got a reputed £400m for a stadium that nobody outside Britain heard of whereas OT is the Mecca of world football and to have a brand name associated to it would i should imagine be worth an absolute fortune.

That was a bit different because it was a move by the owners with a company they have connections with in order to start to maneuver citeh in a better position for FFP

OT is priceless to us, although paying the debt off completely would be good.

yeah but surely there has to be a market (think wenger said this), they can't just pay loads to make up for the fact they have been spending out of their means.

That's the trouble with FFP, good principle, but loopholes in it that well financed well advised clubs will use to their advantage, as citteh did with their naming rights.

don't know, i have faith in it, blind faith maybe. when you put your faith in UEFA you must be blind.
