    A CM would be great but don't think we'll bring one in, I very much see Ando being given another season and putting the faith in Clevs, Powell possibly Tunni and Petrucci.

    We have some brilliant talent at the club, they look ready to make the step up, CC apps and subs then work their way through.

    Lets hope SAF ideas for the midfield come to fruition as it will look very bad if we lose the title bacause our midfield becomes overun in the big matches again. As every fan has stated that it needs some amendment either to replace Carrick with a fast younger tough tackling free scoring box to box midfielder (my choice) or a DM beast that can sit next to carrick. either way we still seem like that is our main achilles heal

    As soon as Sir Alex said he wanted Powell to go cm i knew we wouldn't sign a cm. I agree with the op that it's a position that we need to address but I just can't see it. Saying that I'm excited by the prospect of Moura, even though I'm not utterly convinced we are as interested as everyone makes out.

    I thought of all years, this year would finally be the year the club actually sorts out central midfield. I mean over the last 4 years Utd's Achilles heel has been the middle of the park. Every Utd fan, opposition fan, opposition coach, manager, pundit, sport writers and celebrities have stated that this is where Utd struggle. If it was sorted like last year you could argue it could have been the tipping point we needed to win the league. What we understand from last season; both domestically and in Europe, surely it was a matter of getting the best their is to fill this coveted position. Nope, instead we have gone into the market for more wingers. WINGERS! First Hazard then Moura. Did we not just buy Ashley young last season. Do we not have Valencia and Nani. Did we not also buy Bebe and Obertan in the previous seasons. What is this obsession with WINGERS! I just don't get it how other fans on this forum are not perplexed by the club looking for more wingers. Of all the positions in the team you would think this is well and truly stocked. People coming on here stating Hazard can play through the middle and Moura can do the same. NO they can't. We need competency in this position not slapdash. None of those players have passing in their locker. None of them can play in the middle of the park in a way a Paul Scholes can or a Roy Keane did. Thats the type of player the club should and has to be addressing. Stop p.i.s.s.i.n.g about with wingers. It's embarrassing. To the point now that it looks like they are avoiding central midfield. The whole case of Turnicliffe, Powell and Petrucci should not be a reason. Last season not one word was said about them. But as soon as Morrison and Pogba left they are automatically viable options to start in the first team. Those three players will not be full senior players for another 3 years at least and thats if they are good enough to start in the first team. The club needs to cop on in my opinion and deal with what is necessary to the team. Central midfield is priority everything else is a distant 2nd to this issue.
    it aint been four years every1 has been crying for a centeral midfielder in 2008 which was four years ago carrick was gr8 scholes was playing reguarly and wehad hargreaves playing on occasion and we had andersson there so by that logic ur wrong but its been since scholes left last season beofee returning we all wanted a centeral midfielder and this time round i am sure ferige knows wat he is doing with transfers and for all we know the formation will b different

    Yes just like Pogba and Morrison were the answer........promising youngsters with no 1st team experience are not the answer to solving our 3/4 year old central midfield problem.

    Modric wants to move to Real, and Fergie knows this which is why he no longer has any interest in him and is looking elsewhere....Think we will sign Moura but the midfield also need to be addressed........Just hope he has something up his sleeve along with bringing up the youngsters.......

    Must say the OP is spot on. The only reason i am all for the signing of Lucas is because i am resigned to the fact we are not signing a proper central midfielder. Apparently Real Madrid are nto spending any more than something like 27m for Modric so for me we should just offer spurs 30m for him. They are not going to hold him back twice thats for sure.

    i dont beliv we lost the league coz we didnt have a CM, our problm was with Central defense and goalkeeper (1st half of the season) The sad but honest truth is we have tried to fill that gab in the past.Firstly we signed Carrick who up to now have being consistent with his average displays and Fletcher who has a being a fringe player, then we signed the highly rated Anderson, he shows up at the therapy room more than at the pitch, we also had Gibson, blowing hot and cold, at times showing signs of brilliance but never unleashed ,we could have signed a CM last summer but all our targets were highly priced just becoz it was United who were interested so we decided to give the young and already available option a chance : Cleverley who played well during his loan,he gave us brilliant 6 games in August,he got infected with the Anderson syndrome January we were back in the market, sneidger in the radar, again money became and issue so for now i would day lets give Cleverley and Anderson 1 more chance while scholes is still there if they don't perform we should break the bank next summer for players in the mold of Martinez, Modric, Song and Yaya Toure

    I completely agree. Holding out for players in the reserves doesn't make sense for the present. No one saying they wont make it. But they wont be in the first team for this season. In the 3 years while they develop into rounded players for the first team why can't we have a world class midfielder playing those years.
    I have a sense of myself but I'm not too aware!

    But sure by signing Moura don't we bench either a Nani, Valencia, Young or Kagawa. He is not going to be played in the middle of the park. He doesn't have the necessary skills to play in this position i.e. passing, tackling and positioning. If we were to get Moura wouldn't that mean we would have to off load a winger then?

    Thats the standard of player in midfield we should be associated ad nauseam. More so Martinez as he is the complete box to box midfielder. But we are not. Instead its one winger to another. Why aren't people on the forum questioning this. Its more a case of better off anybody than nobody at all. That doesn't make the team better or stronger. We need to strengthen certain areas of the team. Central midfield is that area.

    With SAF saying how much he likes our youththat he wants to see more of them coming through now is the time to do just that promote these players they are brilliant talents and might just surprise a few people next season.We need to have faith in them.Yes we do need to sign another couple of players but its always nice and important especially with our history of doing so to bring young players through thats what i hope we do with these players this coming season.Its down to SAF at the end of the day.

    I disagree. Especially with Turnicliffe because I watched him last season in Peterborough last and he didn't stand out at the team that finished 18th in the league. As for Powell and Petrucci. Well, like I said before they will need at least 2 more years of loans and playing in Carling Cups and being subs before they can even be considered to be in the starting 11. I don't see Powell breaking that much in to the starting 11. He will get a look in if he is good towards the end of the season.

    Being a beast means nothing more these days in football. Obi mikel is built like a tank yet Ramires; who is 4 stone lighter in muscle than him is ten times the player he is. I'm looking for ability and the way the game is playing physicality just doesn't cut it any more. Competency on the ball is key to the game today. And none more so than in the centre of the park. Referring back to Turnicliffe I saw not much competency on the ball during his tenure on the ball. What player on loan I did see competency on the ball was Brady. Not Surprised he pushed in the senior squad. He has that and ability.
