    Re: v Roma *Pre-match Discussion*

Good news! According to Italian TV teletext, Francesco Totti is definately ruled out of next Tuesday's match..... unless he makes of his famous miraculous recoveries...

Any news about our own quintet of doubtful starters...?

Another great opening thread (as expected now) I think both the fans but more importantly the team believe we can do it this time, an away win and no doubt about it. We are on fire at the moment.   Devil

Very excellent performance against Villa, nice to see Rooney break his goal drought.

Roma is going to be a tough match, hopefully United could keep the focus and form from the past 2 games and should be fine for this match.

    Win for united

    Prediction:

    1-0 || 1-1

a score draw would be enough for me! obviously a win being ace! hopefully we'll beat them comfortably at OT although Champions League knockout is usually tough!

With all players fit I would start with the following and in the 2nd half look for more of an attacking threat by replacing Giggs in the 1st quater with Nani and the least impressive of Scholes or Anderson with Tevez and so changing our formation to a 4-4-2.

                                 VDS

    Brown            Rio             Vidic            Evra

                               Carrick

                  Scholes          Anderson

    Ronaldo              Rooney                   Giggs

Like some have already mentioned I don't care that Totti is likely to be out because I don't think he has posed any threat to us in our previous four meetings in the last two seasons. Vucinic who could possibly of been on the bench if Totti was a cert is far more of a threat imo, a very good player who can destroy teams with his forward play and has looked like he can trouble our defence in the past.

I'm pretty sure that SAF will play Rooney as a lone striker and Tevez will be on the bench!!!! He'll play 5 midfielders with Scholes, Carrick, Hargreaves/Anderson, Ronaldo, and Giggs, if he'll be fit, otherwise Nani will be his coverage. This will be a DIFFICULT game coz we'll play in ITALY again. Hope the lad could win a GOOD match there and we'll be ALL the way via and WIN the CL this season!!!!

Even with Totti being out I honestly believe this will be tougher game for us. Totti is moody and most times just stands around does nothing but wait for the ball. With him out, players like Alberto Aquilani, Vucinic and De Rossi can cause us alot of trouble. Also new player Ludovic Guily and of course Mancini can be a worry... not forgetting this is in Rome, they're very good at home

But I'm sure Sir will make sure our boys arent complecent!

My prediction 1-1, then we do what we do best when they come to OT

        Van de Sar

    Brown Rio Vidic Evra

    Ronnie Hargreaves Scholes Giggs

       Rooney Tevez

With Totti in all probability out of Tuesday's game with a thigh injury, Roma will lose their playmaker and team captain and will surely miss him in their midfield.  I certainly am glad I won't see his antics of conning the ref at every opportunity and getting inexistent fouls. Roma are still a formidable team at home, but if Man United plays anything like they did against Liverpool and Aston Villa, they should get a decent score win to see them through the second leg as well.

    My preferred team would be:

                                Van der Sar

                  Brown  -  Rio  -  Vidic  -  Evra

               Hargreaves  -  Scholes  - Anderson

                   Ronaldo  -  Rooney  -  Nani

Roma in the Quarter Finals of the Champions League, where do I remember this from?(!) In this fixture last year we left the Stadio Olimpico with an away goal but were down on aggregate, well because of the second leg we could have lost 5 - 0 and would have gone through. Even this year in the same fixture we got ourselves a 1 - 1 with both teams fielding weakened sides. Roma are on form but so are we, I would field the same team that outclassed Aston Villa, but have Anderson and Nani on the bench if Giggs and Scholes need to rest or if the team needs an injection of pace. We shouldn't underestimate Roma, they did beat Real Madrid in both legs after all. They probably still want revenge for last year and we should not grant them that revenge. Away win can be done but personally I think that a draw would be a good result, so either a slight win or high score draw.

My Prediction: Manchester United 2 - 1 AS Roma ( Tevez, Ronaldo - Mancini )

With Totti the playmaker and Mexes out, I think that United can come away from this game with a win, take it easy at OT.

Sure youre entitled to your opinion its just that your opinion is stupid

i think we should play in 4-5-1 with carrick and Hargi in the CMF and Anderson as an AMF and Ronaldo and Giggs in the right and the left coz Roma's strength is in thier MFs "aquilany, de rossi, pizzaro,..." and also wings "cicnho, tonneto" and in this way we can stop the wings coz neither cicinho nor tonneto will leave Giggs nor Ronaldo and if they did we will simply score.

hope Rooney will be in his form coz he definitely knows the way to Doni's goal in olympico

Teves, Nani and Schools will be ready.

if evertything goes rihgt the result will be 2-1 for Man Utd and Anderson will play a great match and he will score his first goal and it will be against Doni the keeper who won the Copa America title with.

I don't think the italian teams are that good. Just look how liverpool brushed aside inter. Roma are about as good as west ham, nothing more.
