Re: Why we don't call our club Man U *grimace*

    Colin,

Thanks for the heads up and bit of history info there for us who don't know and/or not living in Manchester.

I will help spread the word. Smile

I hear you buddy but some people are so thick and perhaps the new text-spelling-generation keep on using the term. Keep them informed! Yes

Edwin I gotta to tell you history is something happened in the past and nothing can change it!!!!

And I gotta to ask you a question:- Do you appreciate others calling you with a nickname, which has a BAD meaning inside, but he/she always tells you he/she never means it????!!!!! Think about it!!!!

I think that it depends on what context it is used in.  98% of the members on these forums are Manchester United fans, there are just the odd few trolls now and again.

I think that if a fan on these boards calls Man Utd "Man U", I don't think that people should get so upset over it. To call members that use it (on accident) "shameful" and "insulting" seems very ridiculous to me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not wanting to start a fight or trying to make people say it. But I think that unless a member on these boards posts one of those disgusting songs, whatever they want to refer to Manchester United as shouldn't be seen as insulting - as they're not meaning to cause offense.

I actually find it more offensive that people are constantly posting that little rant containing the rival's songs.

I always say "Man Utd" because I don't want someone to copy and paste that rant into a topic and perhaps ruin the thread.

The rant has been posted so many times, yet people still say "Man U" so I think that it's pretty much fighting a losing battle.

Why we don't call our club Man U *grimace*

Man U is not a term United fans refer to themselves as. The term is only used by other supporters as a complete and utter insult to our club. The "u" is meant to be "you" by the rival fans.

An early example of its usage is this chant by West Brom fans: "Duncan Edwards is manure, rotting in his grave, man you are manure- rotting in your grave". The origin of "Man u" is a song to insult the dead Duncan Edwards.

Liverpool and Leeds fans copied this with their own man you /u versions to insult all of the lads who died at munich.

"Man U Man U went on a plane Man U Man U never came back again"

    and..

"Man U Never Intended Coming Home" (if you combine the first letter of each word you get the word "munich").

I hope this makes it clearer that saying man u is an insult, particularly to the older supporters and to see United fans using it now is shameful. I hope a few might read this, understand and spread the word.

So... Please REFRAIN from using this term ever again!!!!!!!!
