Hmm I have not seen anything saying that Michael Owen is going to replace the like of Ronaldo or anything, but more like he will be a great substitute. Honestly just because we could have £80mill to spend doesn't mean we have to spend it, that is just stupid and terrible for business. I think what people are seeing is that it is like a game, such as football manager, but the truth is it's not remember this is real money. Real Madrid are just mental and are taking an astronomical risk with spending that ridiculous amount of money.

The question is mostly, why do people just happen to start hating Owen?

    Reasons we can scratch off

    - He is scouser. Owen is from Cheshire, so he is not a scouser.

    - He is loyal to Liverpool. Wrong he is an Everton supporter.

    - Seen one say he made fun of the Munich disaster with an aeroplane celebration. What a pile of bullshit, theres 100's of players who have done that celebration at least once.

ok my opinion - I think if the wages are right he will be a good SQUAD player. He is not the answer the void left by the departure of tevez and ronnie or is he that prolific goal scorer we craved last year when we still had ronnie. BUT he adds depth and maybe a good player for the younger ones to learn from. I wouldnt mind training with him giggs scholes van der sar neville etc...proven mature players on a international stage.  so basically:

Pros: Good mentor for younger lads, Adds Depth

Cons: hard to keep fit, not the prolific scorer we lack

    :)

Yes, yes, yes. Correct. Obviously, if he was to defy all the odds and score 25 goals this season i'll take it all back (but he won't so i wont have to). He is past his best, made of glass and I bet he gets a serious injury early on in the season.

Nobody has changed their mind. Some fans prefer the blind faith and optimism and proclaim Owen as the saviour. Other fans realise he is well past his sell buy date and are now beginning to worry about what direction we are heading. The fact that he is also a true and true scouser just rubs salt into the wounds.

Re: Isn't it amazing how quickly fans change their mind

If before the end of last season we had been linked with Owen there would have been universal dissent and critisism on here. Now that we have been unable to sign any great players, people all of a sudden are talking like Owen is the Messiah, just like the Newcastle fans thought he would be. So take your heads out of the sand and stop being blindly optimistic. Just because you dont agree with this or any signing does not make you disloyal or not a true fan. Its just an opinion. I will always support United, doesnt have to mean I agree with everything they do. Fergie is the greatest manager in the history of football and I will savage anyone who levels any critisism of him. BUT all managers make dodgy signings sometimes. Even SAF (Miller, Djemba-Djemba, Kleberson, Bellion, Blanc, Forlan, Poborski, Taibi, Bosnic, Cruyyf, etc). I just happen to thimnk we will be adding Owen to that list in the near future.

I never said he was hopeless, I never thought we should sign him either. Until of course the rumours started, free transfer, cheap wages (possibly pay-per-play, goals etc), why the hell not? He is a decent striker. I dont hate the man as some ignorant people would. We have nothing to lose on this. If it doesnt work out then so what, didnt cost us much!

One minute people are saying he's hopeless, the next he's the solution to all our problems. Stop been so hypocritical. Forget the fact he played for Liverpool. All that matters is that Owen is past his best...period. Just becuase he's joining United it doesn't mean he's going to recapture his form from five years ago.

that are just minority of ppl saying he is hopeless, btw who care...the decision maker is SAF.fans pls dont interupt him doing his job.otherwise you are just another chelsea boss who want to involved in coach decisions.

bear in mind you, this is not playground for fun...manutd not a toy.

Thankyou, someone who agrees. This is the best thread on Michael Owen other than the ones I have made because it is not full of contradictive unloyal goons, who think Owen is all of a sudden our solution......he is free - nothing in life is free without consequences!!!!!!!
