    Hi sapper1 !

In defence of Casper626 my point was that he was referring to Manchester City when he mentioned ' Eastlands ' in his Denis Law profile.

You immediately pointed out that while playing for Manchester City, Denis Law  never played at Easlands.

You are right in the sense that Denis Law played at Maine Road and not at Eastlands. I knew about that since 1962, the time I got interested in British football. Most of the fans those days and much later knew about that.

In fact Eastlands is another name for the City Of Manchester Stadium. I also read about some fans jokingly calling the stadium, the ' Middle East-lands' stadium, from the time the Arabs bought the team. Eastlands is also an area in Manchester.

Yes Denis Law never played at Easlands. He played at Main Road. But Casper626 was referring to Manchester City when mentioning Eastland in Denis Law's profile.

Anyway, thanks for the map. I stay very far from Manchester. I don't know much about the roads of Manchester. This will help.

    Let us close the debate.

    No hard feelings.

    Cheers!

No hard feelings at all mate, I'm just trying to inform and educate, and i like things right, but I bow to pressure, if this is how it's to be then so be it LOL

i am afraid you shouldnt try to be so smart, as that map isnt too clear. maine road is to the east of old trafford, quite clearly, i cant get a print screen up to show you as it wont let me, but the one i have found is much clearer, yes city of manchester is further north east but maine road still falls under the category of eastlands. so try not to get too smart there. also most of city's fans are int he eastlands area, with ours around the trafford and salford area.

back to the point about correcting casper. you could have corrected him poiltely if you were right, you were just trying too put him down practically.

    just a fact for you.

MAINE ROAD IS EAST OF OLD TRAFFORD, QUITE CLEARLY. Big Smile

look, the 13 year old boy is trying and doing well to help this forums out, you are only trying to put the poor kid down with your comments. it isnt very nice so dont go round correcting others until you have done something good or contributed here. becasue you are acting like such a smart ass and think you know it all. just leave him alone.

So now if someone is wrong we are not allowed to correct them ?

That means that this "The Official United Forum" is givng out false imformation !!

If people of my age don't correct things, young United fans will grow up never knowing about Maine Road, and all the other old grounds that existed.

    Casper626:

Listen mate, I grew up calling Manchester City:

    City

    Eastlands

    Manchester City

I've called it Eastlands AND City in my post so there is no reason why you should get confused over what I'm on about.

Manchester City's stadium is based in an area called EASTlands which is directly EAST of Old Trafford.

    Now do you understand?

If you don't then please refer to a map of Manchester and save us all this arguing.

So you have only known City playing at Eastlands, that doesn't make you right and me wrong...does it. All it does prove is that I am older than you and my knowledge of football before 1992 is greater than yours.

What has Eastlands being EAST of Old Trafford got to do with Denis not playing there..........I'll tell you ..nothing at all.

FYI I probably know the area arounf Old Trafford, and the Maine Road area a lot better than you.

Just to expand on my point I've gone to the trouble of posting a map of Manchester for you, that way you will be able to see just how far EASTlands is from MAINE ROAD

Oh and heres a quote from Wiki for you, just to prove Denis could never have played there

The 2002–03 season was the last at Maine Road, and included a 3–1 derby victory over rivals Manchester United, ending a run of 13 years without a derby win.[23] City also qualified for European competition for the first time in 25 years. In the 2003 close season the club moved to the new City of Manchester Stadium. The first four seasons at the stadium all resulted in mid-table finishes. Former England manager Sven-Göran Eriksson[24] After a bright start performances faded in the second half of the season, and Eriksson was sacked in June 2008.[25] Eriksson was replaced by Mark Hughes two days later on 4 June 2008.[26] became the club's first manager from overseas when appointed in 2007.

But hey... sod history and the facts, you just go on believing you are right Big Smile

You are WRONG, get over it.

If you cannot get things historically right get over it.

Put it another way you saying Denis played at Eastlands is like saying the Battle of Hastings took place in Brighton !!, it's historically wrong, andif wrong information like this gets into the heads of young supporters who believe everythin ghtey read on the net we might as well give up now.

    Hi sapper1 !

Casper626's quote #1: [Law spent a very succesful year at Eastlands, making 44 appearances and scoring 21 goals, still only 21.]

    Casper626's quote #2: [ Docherty sent Law back to Eastlands on a free transfer}

I am standing in defence of 13 year old Casper626. There must be a reason why he used the word/name ' Eastlands ' .

Again, anyone who knows about Denis Law, will agree that Law had a succesful season at Manchester City and after his spell at Manchester United he went to Manchester City. So, it is obvious that Casper 626 was referring to Manchester City when making mention of Eastlands.

Do none of you actually read my posts ?

I shalll repeat once again, read his Bio, he tells it all in there.

     Robi

I do not need the geography lesson thanks, I know where the Eastlands ground is and I know where the  Maine Road ground was.

The fact that he is a 13yr old boy is even morereason to correct him when he is worng, if you don't he willl grow up thinking Denis did play at Eastlands, it's a matter of principle.

Did England win the world cup under th Wembley arch, no they won it when Wembley  two two towers

    Re: Legends Profile: Denis Law

    sapper1 !

I do apologise for not having been able to complete my earlier post in reply to your previous post. As much as this should not turn into a hot debate, I do agree with you that facts must stand as facts.

Denis Law played for Manchester City, went to Torino, came to Manchester United and went back to Manchester City.

Casper626 must have got the ' Eastlands' information from some source and again he must be referring to Manchester City, because later on in his post, he clearly quoted that: ' He (Denis Law) later decided to retire because the manager of City said he would only play for the reserves if he stayed.'

It again proves that Casper was referring to Manchester City when making mention of 'Eastlands' and which I emphasise must be geographically situated East of Old Trafford. It has nothing to do with George Best playing for North Road.

Why I brought up Denis Law's retirement issue, was because you made mention of you being present at the grounds on that day while Casper 626 got his information from Wikipedia.

Casper626 is 13 years old. He couldn't have been at the stadium on that day. He must have got his referrences from magazines, books or the internet.

Again Casper626 may be right. Just consider Alex Ferguson telling Ryan Giggs: ' If you want to stay at the club, from now on, you're only going to play for the reserves.'

I'm sure Ryan Giggs will start packing his bags straight away.

Referring to Casper626's quote, this is what Denis Law could have resorted to after having been told to play in the reserves.

Denis Law didn't kick a ball for Manchester City after scoring against Manchester United, does not justify Denis Law's retirement from football on that night. Denis could have felt miserable after his famous/infamous goal, but he might still have gone for training with Manchester City. He might have been off form and most probably that could have been the reason why the manager told him to play in the reserves. May be Denis Law didn't want that and he hung up his boots. After all he was almost 38 years old and at this age even a great player like Denis Law might have found it hard to perform to the best of his abilities.

    No hard feelings.

    Cheers !
